Matriach not mother?

Why matriach rather than mother? Faro0485 (talk) 15:48, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Because she is not only a mother but a grandmother and great-grandmother as well. Matriarch means something like the female head of a big family. – Alensha talk 21:20, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

She is the female head of a big, not to mention very well-known family. Nine of her own children, several very prominent. Many grandchildren, etc. If Rose Kennedy was universally recognized as a matriach, there's no reason Katherine Jackson shouldn't be. 24.60.177.217 (talk) 16:55, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

I am changing it back to mother because Matriarch sounds ridiculous and like fan cruft. The definition of Matriarch from Wikipedia is,Matriarchy (also gynecocracy) refers to a gynecocentric form of society, in which the leading role is taken by the women and especially by the mothers of a community. This does not describe Katherine Jackson. She did have a husband Joe,who helped raise the Jackson kids. In fact, it is well documented that Joe was the person responsible for the Jackson children success. --99.177.250.140 (talk) 19:54, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

I am changing it back to matriach, because she is almost universally referred to as such in news and pop culture. Even though Joe was the "patriach" in the early years, he is not the "leading role" among his kids and Michael's kids were willed to Katherie, not Joe. Although she may have been simply the "mother" in the past, she is definitely the matriach now.jeff (talk) 03:56, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Family

Do we need to include the whole family tree here and in Joseph's article when the article Jackson family already has the complete list? – Alensha talk 01:00, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't think we need it. I'll go and remove it from both articles. Pyrrhus16 21:23, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

yes I would say that joe's child from his mistress does not need to be included in katherine jackson's article at all, since she is not kate's child. Tessie xo (talk) 02:16, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

While misplaced, I think this is a great point Upon A Spikéd Branch (talk) 16:24, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Husband?

  • there's not one mention of her husband, Joe, in her article. Incredible! ie who is she married to? who is the father of her children? Koplimek (talk) 15:12, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

I added a sentence about him. You're right, the article followed Katherine's life up till the age of 4 then the next we read is that she is the mother of 10 children... – Alensha talk 21:20, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Singing

on the A&E program "Michael Jackson" (aired 28 June 2009) it mentions that she says that the singing family started with her and her sister, later she and Joe were also musical, and that she taught the children, and got Joe to notice them. 76.66.193.20 (talk) 12:56, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Still married?

Are she and Joseph still together? I notice custody has only been granted to her, not her husband, are they still living together? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.253.204.223 (talk) 00:27, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Age

Can we verify her age? You list her as being born in '35 other sources say '30. Rebbie was born in '50 which would mean she had her at 15, using your math. I think 1930 is the correct year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.171.3.253 (talk) 02:14, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

While this says it is more likely for her to have been born in 1930, it is not altogether impossible for her to have been born in 1935. Can anyone find a source? Upon A Spikéd Branch (talk) 16:27, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Sure she could have had her at 15, but all indications are that she did not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.51.98 (talk) 22:22, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Parents

Her parents' death years are lies. Her mother Martha UpShaw Scrouse was the only Jackson grandparent to meet children after LaToya. Katherine's father and both of Joe's parents died in the 1950s while Martha died in the 1990s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mo'NiqueChild (talkcontribs) 20:34, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Can you provide sources? I just fired up ProQuest and found no hits for as to when Martha and Albert died. hbdragon88 (talk) 01:49, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
Actually I recently learned Martha Upshaw Scrouse is still living. So I don't know what to believe. I only know She was the last living Jackson grandparent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mo'NiqueChild (talkcontribs) 05:05, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
Again, links? That's an incredible feat - if Martha gave birth when she was 20, she would be 99 or so. also, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) hbdragon88 (talk) 07:27, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

If she is still alive, she's 107. Someone would have mentioned that, you'd think. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.51.98 (talk) 22:20, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Reported Missing, July 22, 2012

Katherine Jackson was reported missing to police after she failed to communicate with her family for a week, despite multiple attempts. She is believed to be with Rebbie Jackson, but her family was told she was "unavailable". http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/22/showbiz/michael-jackson-mom-missing-person/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.228.231.176 (talk) 06:52, 22 July 2012 (UTC) I remember seeing Joel's parents in jet magazine in the 70s or 80s I remember the jors dad was the last to go. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.51.98 (talk) 22:17, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

"née Scruse; born Kattie B. Screws" in Introduction

This doesn't make sense. "née" means "born". "née Scruse" means that Scruse was her name at birth. That conflicts with "born Kattie B. Screws". If her name at birth was Kattie B. Screws, she should be described as "née Screws" or "née Kattie B. Screws". I'm not sure what's the Wikipedia style in describing birth names, so I won't change it. But in any case, "née Scruse" is incorrect. Omc (talk) 19:01, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

"While a young child, Katherine and her family would move to East Chicago, Indiana. There, her name was changed from Kattie Screws to Katherine Esther Scruse."[1] Not a very reliable source, but possibly true nonetheless. --82.170.113.123 (talk) 19:18, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
"She was born as Kattie Screws [named after her aunt.] After Martha—Kattie’s mom—got divorced, she changed Kattie’s name to Katherine Esther Scruse in 1934."[2] --82.170.113.123 (talk) 19:21, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Christian/Jehovah's Witnesses

In response to this edit, the following. I'm going to undo the edit by IP editor 151.151.16.20, because while Katherine did indeed say she's a Christian (exact moment here), Jehovah's Witnesses consider themselves to be Christian ("Yes. We are Christians for the following reasons: [...]"[3]) Whether she's a Jehovah's Witnesses or not, I don't know. I'm going to undo the edit because IP editor 151.151.16.20 writes his edit is based on (reference/source) the talk with Piers Morgan, but that talk doesn't give us new insights regarding her religion. --82.170.113.123 (talk) 10:51, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Disputed: Katherine talking about her husband's adultery in My Family

Right now, the article says "She detailed that her husband on more than a few occasions had committed adultery, one of which resulted in the birth of a daughter named Joh'Vonnie Jackson with another woman named Cheryl Terrell on August 30, 1974." Reference used for this text is Katherine's My Family book (page not mentioned). From what I've read elsewhere, she does not go into her husband's adultery in the book. The whole book is on-line here and I cannot find anything about it in the book. I've searched all the pages for "Vonnie", "1974" (one hit but unrelated) and "adultery". I've also read text near where she mentions "Joe" and I've read several passages that seemed like they could be relevant. I think the text is wrong and she didn't mention that Joe on "more than a few occasions had committed adultery". In fact, I think she didn't write about even a single occurrence of it. --82.170.113.123 (talk) 18:50, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
