The trouble with this article...[edit]

There is no such entity as Kawasaki Motorcycle Corporation. Kawasaki Heavy Industries manufactures motorcycles, ATVs, PWCs and engines. The Kawasaki Motors name is used for a number of subsidiary companies. The "Kawasaki Motors Corporation" named in the intro text is merely the US distribution subsidiary, which exists alongside other national distributors such as Kawasaki Motors Europe NV, Kawasaki Motors Pty Ltd, Kawasaki Motores do Brasil etc. In addition there are a number of subsidiary companies which manufacture Kawasaki products such as Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp USA, P.T. Kawasaki Motor Indonesia, and Kawasaki Motors Enterprise (Thailand) Co., Ltd. If this is going to be the article that we link to from all Kawasaki motorcycle articles, then we should a) rename it; and b) fix it so it properly reflects the name and operational structure of the company. If you want some background reading for reference, then here is the 2010 annual report. --Biker Biker (talk) 09:31, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think we have to adhere to Kawasaki's corporate structure.

Page 22 of the annual report above says "The name of this segment has been changed from the Consumer Products & Machinery segment to the Motorcycle & Engine segment," so if we wanted to adhere to Kawasaki's official name, we'd use Kawasaki Motorcycle & Engine. And then we'd rename it again next time they restructure or rename things. I think the most stable choice would be to have the article be about the subject rather than the official name of the corporate division. So call it Kawasaki motorcycles with a lowercase M, describing the topic of the article and then letting the other page, Kawasaki Heavy Industries Consumer Products and Machinery Company, worry about the vicissitudes of the Kawasaki division that makes motorcycles, among other things. And if we renamed this page to Kawasaki motorcycles, it could be a catch-all for any information we have about the various national Kawasaki Motor Cos.

Coverage of jet skis, and miscellaneous engines, and (formerly) robots, can be left on Kawasaki Heavy Industries Consumer Products and Machinery Company (whose name should probably now reflect the new official name Kawasaki Motorcycle & Engine). Kawasaki motorcycles is already a redirect so it would need to be deleted to make way for the move. --Dbratland (talk) 16:25, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good suggestion - agree. --Biker Biker (talk) 21:46, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kawasaki Gorilla[edit]

Should the article include a passage about the Kawasaki Gorilla, a notable TV advertising icon/character for Kawasaki from the 1970s?

Any citations for that? I can't seem to find any. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 18:17, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here is one commercial that the Kawasaki Gorilla briefly appeared in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbgkkvIvswU
There were other commercials, most notably one where the Kawasaki Gorilla rides out toward camera at the end of the commercial during the "Kawasaki Lets The Good Times Roll" jingle chorus. (Regrettably, I cannot locate a copy of that commercial on the net).

Are there third party sources which tell us this commercial was notable? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 20:58, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Kawasaki motorcycles with Kawasaki Heavy Industries[edit]

It's redundant to have another Wikipedia article dedicated for motorcycles the company makes when the company's article can include that. Mechanical Keyboarder (talk) 18:49, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
