Notability[edit]

A careful reading of the only source, the Ibis obituary, (thanks to Sionk for providing the convenient link!) leaves one with the distinct impression that the impact of Simmons' ornithological work meets the notability criterion 1 for academics. The phrase "...one of his most cited papers" is indicative that "The person's research has made significant impact in their scholarly discipline...". Clearly, the article lacks corroborative sources, but it seems equally clear that these may be found in time. The single source is reliable and independent. I would therefore argue for the keeping of this particular article, should any question arise, rather than to allow for any merging, or deletion.
