The origin place of my ancestors?[edit]

It appears that my ancestors settled on an island in the Ottawa River (across from Ottawa, Canada) known as Kettle Island. Upon searching their names on google, there seems to be a connection to Kentucky.

I am currently doing a genealogical research on my family, based on another search by cousins. Some think that our ancestors were from Ireland, others from England. When it comes to religion, England is mostly Anglican, and Ireland is mostly Catholic, with a Presbyterian minority in Northern Ireland.

In addition, the family name of the wife suggests a Dutch or German origin. It is rather hard to imagine Dutch or German people settling in Northern Ireland, even a century after the death of William III, who was Dutch.

A Loyalist origin may be more logical, because our ancestors married in 1806 in a Presbyterian church located in Sorel (Canada), where a number of loyalists settled. They may have learned French from Canadian neighbours... or what if they were from Vermont?
