Devin Townsend Project

The name of the "band" is still Devin Townsend. "Devin Townsend Project" is the name of the album series. Until a reliable source refers to the artist as "Devin Townsend Project", it's speculation to make that the artist name. Note that:

• The record label files Ki[1] under Devin Townsend (but files Devin Townsend Band separately[2]). I think this is pretty conclusive by itself, since it's the only thing close to a reliable source.
• The Myspace[3] (which admittedly is not a very good source) listed Devin Townsend Band as the artist name up until a few weeks ago, when it updated for Ki; it now lists the artist name as Devin Townsend, not Devin Townsend Project. I think this is also pretty conclusive.
• Random quotes from the Ki interview make it pretty clear as well:

• "Each album is essentially a different 'band' (or collection of session musicians) playing my music." So if the artist name is Devin Townsend Project, then that's a band name for four completely different bands (whereas a solo name like "Devin Townsend" implies an arbitrary backup group, as he's done all along — Devin Townsend Band, by contrast, was a static lineup and that's the only reason it got a name).
• "At the end of the 'DTP' (Devin Townsend Project) when it gets played live, (which it will) I will choose one group of people to represent it all." It doesn't make much sense to refer to "the end of the [band name]", nor to talk about putting a group together (which would have the same name?) afterward.

I acknowledge that Devin Townsend Project may very well turn out to be the band name, but right now there are no sources that actually use it as a band name, and for a yet-unreleased album we can't assume anything not supported by existing sources. All sources list "Devin Townsend" as the artist name, so I'm going to revert it back to that unless someone can defend otherwise. —Gendralman (Talk) 04:46, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Bonus tracks

I'm not a native speaker, so I hope others will put this into the right words... I think it's notable that Devin released 3 Ki bonus tracks in .wav format on April 27th via bit torrent. References: 1, 2, 3 -- 217.230.212.94 (talk) 19:56, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't know. Even though he called them "Ki bonus tracks", they don't really have anything to do with the album itself. And no independent reliable sources (like Blabbermouth.net or whatever) wrote about them, so they're not really notable in Wikipedia terms (see Wikipedia:Verifiability). If they release a version of the album with the bonus tracks included, then they'll be worth mentioning here. Otherwise it's just trivia, IMHO. —Gendralman (talk) 20:15, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Loudness War

I would strongly dispute the statement "Ki was mixed by Townsend, and features very little compression, in contrast with his usual wall-of-sound production style." While the album is dynamic at times, there are certain sections (most notably the ending of the title track) that are definitely very compressed and very loud and are sonically almost as bad as 'Death Magnetic'.
