Cleanup[edit]

The biography for Sutherland requires massive cleanup, both chronologically and by importance.

The article mentions "PSA". What does PSA mean? Could somebody please make clear what this is? Thanks. Tim Pritlove 01:59, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Bank account[edit]

Has anyone noticed that in the picture of his cheque to the 1 second film project here, his bank account number as encoded on the bottom appears to be '2424242424' - interesting trivia, or pointless? 84.203.42.128 (talk) 23:40, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alma mater?[edit]

This feature on The Onion [1] (link will expire in a couple of weeks) seems to imply that Sutherland has a degree from Princeton University. Could someone verify this, or find out more about his educational background? --LostLeviathan 21:17, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It should also mention that he attened St.Andrew's College in Aurora, Ontario. --Madchester June 30, 2005 05:43 (UTC) " Since Keiffer was a student boarder at ST. Kiefer Sutherland in MASH?[edit]

I am knowing the TV-series and as far as i know he has never appeared in the TV-series MASH but his father Donald Sutherland has played Hawkeye Pearce in the Robert Altman movie. If i am wrong could you please give me the name of the episode? Melly42 15:51, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed this from the article because 1)there is no source or detail (episode name/number) supporting a MASH appearance by an 11-year-old Sutherland. IMDB does not list this appearance. 2)The section is a "filmography", a list of some of the films he has appeared in, and as such should not include TV appearances (MASH was the only TV appearance listed here). Slightly musteloid sentence...[edit]

After the original broadcast of the November 25, 2003 episode of 24, Kiefer Sutherland broke character to address the issue of gun safety, most likely to limit the liability of Fox Network in case someone attempted to recreate the Russian Roulette scenes.

I'm as likely to be cynical about Fox's motivations as the next person (or Simpsons character), but would we have a source for said speculation (much less likelihood)? Alai 03:43, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Twin Peaks, Fire Walk with Me[edit]

re: Sutherland plays the gay partner of Chet (Chris Isaak) in this supporting role.

There are no facts to support Kiefer's Character in Twin Peaks being gay.

What happened to all the trivia that used to be on this page? I understand that some facts did not have proper/reliable citations, but many of them did. Who decided that they could just delete all of these interesting facts (such as the Christmas Tree incident)? Most of the new facts arent even cited. Bwats2 22:08, 2006 July 25(UTC)

Lost virginity?[edit]

"I remember the first girl I slept with," he goes on. "She was seventeen, I was thirteen. I remember leaving her house after we'd done it, like, seven times, and I remember skipping to the bus stop, going, 'I've done it seven times.' And I was literally skipping."

Picture[edit]

Due to the terms of Wikipedia's image use policy we cannot use this picture. Wikipedia is allowed to use copyrighted pictures in, for example, the Jack Bauer article, as all pictures of him as a character will be copyrighted. However with Sutherland the actor, it is different as there will be pictures which we can use that are not copyrighted and so, unless we have permission from the owner of the copyright, we must use a free picture. All pictures of Jack Bauer will be copyrighted and so not for use in this article. So unfortunately I will have to remove it, for the time being at least. Daughter Michelle and the years[edit]

It says Kiefer Sutherland is a grandfather from his daughter Michelle, who was born in 1976. Sutherland was born in 1966. I doubt that he was 10 when she was born, and it would not be very unusual for her to have a child at 30. Are these numbers messed up. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jormundgard (talkcontribs) 09:38, 17 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Having just read the article and seeing the part where his marriage with Camelia made him step father to Michelle (Terry Kath's daughter) it says [citation needed], really? Isn't it common knowledge that when you marry someone with a kid you are considered the step parent? Why would this need to be cited? Now I could understand if this was about adoption, but it is not. Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland[edit]

Does anyone else think that having his entire name in the lead is a bit distracting and unnecessary? It makes his bio look unprofessional in a way.. not sure of the correct words to use how to describe it. I propose we change it to just "Kiefer Sutherland" and move the full name with the Rolling Stone reference to a sentence somewhere lower in the article. -- œ 17:04, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I use Wikipedia is to find out stuff like famous peoples' full names... We should keep it. Crazy Eddy (talk) 20:45, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As much as I disagree with putting the full name at the beginning of the lead, it is the MOS standard, and something that all bio articles must do. --Musdan77 (talk) 19:02, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was just thinking about this. Despite having four middle names myself, I think it looks hideous. I've seen numerous articles, particularly for the aristocracy, which include excessive middle names in the bio, not in the intro. Surely enough this should be considered, even if it is his full legal name.
I don't use my full name, nor would I like to see it used if I had an Wikipedia page.

Need to check fact[edit]

I see that it's written here that "He attended five different high schools...", and then lists 6. I can see 3 schools listed here, a couple at other sites, so are there sources for all the schools? Deleted report that KS is in upcoming Mortal Kombat (2015)[edit]

Sutherland's performance in the upcoming Mortal Kombat video game (2015 release) was listed (with Voice Role TBA) in the Video Games section, sourced to an IGN interview from Feb/2014, where Sutherland is quoted making the claim. Subsequently, in Jun/2014, in a Gamen Guide article, Sutherland's claim was addressed and his involvement categorically denied by NetherRealms studio head and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, referenced with a YouTube video of an E3 2014 conference where Boon clearly states this. So, while sourced to a reliable publication, this piece of information is equally verifiably incorrect (the Gamen article also corrects its own story in Feb/2014, reporting KS' claim based on the IGN interview). While it is possible that Boon is in error or...lying, seems like on balance the Wikipedia entry should now wait until the game itself is released. --Tsavage (talk) 18:35, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hobbies[edit]

Is guitar collecting not a "permissable hobby"? Or is it just too trivial to be worthy of any mention? I have searched in vain for the word "hobby" at WP:NOT. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:43, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unless his guitar collection turned into a music career I don't see how that's relevant or necessary to have on his page. Personal life is for relationships, philanthropy, charity, where they live, etc. Not what he does in his spare time, again, this isn't a fan page. What his favorites and hobbies are aren't notable. LADY LOTUSTALK 16:16, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You said that your large scale deletion was supported by wiki policy, at WP:NOT. Where exactly is that defined? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:17, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, what wikipedia is not and wikipedia isn't a fan site or a gossip site. WP:COMMONSENSE. LADY LOTUSTALK 16:40, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a personal opinion of yours. I think a summary of interests and hobbies is a pretty essential part of a full picture of any individual, whether a celebrity or not. Or are we to believe that Mr Sutherland is an embittered and driven workaholic who has no interests at all apart form his career? You have removed 3,262 bytes of material that was supported by seven different external sources. Are you claiming that was all "gossip"? Martinevans123 (talk) 16:48, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You are honestly the first editor I have ever come across that fights to put his hobbies back in. It's not a personal opinion of mine, it's from experience and dealing with other editors who have taught me what should be in Wikipedia articles in BLP and what should not and the consensus that I have come across is that hobbies and favorites shouldn't be in there. If you want to get a consensus on this, by all means, I would welcome what other editors have to say. And no, I'm not calling it gossip. I have said in my last edit summary "just because it's reliably sourced doesn't mean it should be included". LADY LOTUSTALK 17:46, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You said "wikipedia isn't a fan site or a gossip site." I quite agree. But they're not "my hobbies", are they. A trimming down of the section might well have been in order, but a wholesale excision is way, way over the top. In the absence of any clear policy here, I'd welcome other views. Did you know that this guy had hobbies? Martinevans123 (talk) 18:55, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding his Metal Gear roles[edit]

Just thought i should voice the opinion that the line "provided the facial motion capture and English voices of Big Boss and Venom Snake in the video games Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." Should probably be changed, as it reveals a very heavy story element of the game, and is, in my opinion, something that shouldn't be featured on the front page of an article. This could be changed to be more cryptic to avoid spoilers, with further lines in the article adressing it fully. 69.11.82.239 (talk) 16:29, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

As far as I've seen. Non-signed users who have been fighting on nationality. I believe we should put this up to a vote. I'm not much of a kiefer fan but as far as I've seen. And I believe everyone who have been in this knows that birthplace does not define a person's nationality nor his citizenship. Since kiefer sutherland has never referred himself as english. And he grew up in Canada. Also refers himself as one. We should change it to Canadian only. I believe every sensible person will understand me. Hughes Anderson (talk) 16:41, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sutherland was born in England and maintains British citizenship. A cursory google search yields evidence of that fact. Here's an interview where he says he has a British passport: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/kiefer-sutherland-you-ask-the-questions-495033.html If someone has citizenship somewhere it should absolutely be mentioned. MOS:OPENPARABIO states that the nationality of a person belongs in the lead, so in the lead it lives. TheSavageNorwegian 17:55, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I believe you dont know that there is a difference between nationality and citizenship. Nationality means a state of belonging to a nation. Citizenship means a status. Nationality is what you choose. Unlike POB or descent. Citizenship is just a legal status of being a citizen. Hughes Anderson (talk) 23:49, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want me to see your replies, you're gonna have to learn to format them properly. Colons are your friend. On nationality, do you have any specific evidence that Sutherland has chosen a Canadian or American nationality and renounced a British one? Aside from spending time in Canada and the US, I mean. The burden of proof rests with you, disproving his British nationality, since he's on-record talking about having British citizenship. Biographies of living persons, like all articles, require verifiability. TheSavageNorwegian 20:54, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hughes Anderson, you haven't linked to a video. Schazjmd (talk) 01:45, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hughes Anderson, until you achieve consensus on the question, you must stop changing the article to your preferred version. If you do so again, it will be treated as edit warring. General Ization Talk 03:16, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you are mistaken in your assertion that someone's nationality is based purely on how they "identify themselves". As the article Nationality explains, "nationality is a legal relationship between an individual person and a state." This relationship does not change purely because someone does not announce that they possess one or another nationality. General Ization Talk 03:39, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Best to inform our readers precisely....let's say what other like sources say "[British-born Canadian actor..]" Britannica. Then explain in the body with a source that also explains like this and explain he identifies as a Canadian with a source like this. In Canadian speech "an English Canadian" has different meanings thus can lead to confusion over the broad more historical term English Canadians that Wikipedia splits off.--Moxy 🍁 05:05, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Moxy's suggestion. "British-born Canadian" is easy to understand; as an American, I'm not quite sure what an "English Canadian" is. (The video link Hughes Anderson posted in the edit summary doesn't add any new information to the discussion.) Schazjmd (talk) 15:09, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Our article English Canadians should clear that up: "English Canadians or Anglo-Canadians (French: Canadiens anglais), refers to either Canadians of English ethnic origin and heritage or to English-speaking or Anglophone, Canadians of any ethnic origin ..." Sutherland meets the criteria for both usages of the term. General Ization Talk 23:46, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why not Canadian? His birthplace is not to be combined with his nationality. What is wrong with you all? He is considered Canadian. And it will make more sense. Hughes Anderson (talk) 17:09, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Our job here is to regurgitate sources....and as seen above and in a search about this topic ....it comes up from time to time in bios about him. So we should inform our readers of this fact and provide them with reliable research material. As a Canadian I agree he should be called just a Canadian really cuz he grew up here in Canada and because of his grandfather contribution to Canadian history....but the fact is he's a british-born Canadian who identify strongest with Canada...so let's say this and source it for our readers.--Moxy 🍁 18:27, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
May I suggest, Hughes Anderson, that you take a step back from statements such as "What is wrong with you all?" Yours is not the only opinion that matters here, and suggesting that there is something wrong with other editors is, in effect, a personal attack and will get you blocked. General Ization Talk 18:33, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well. Moxy. You are canadian. So am I. We have 1/4 of foreign born population. And we refer everyone as just 'Canadian'. For equality. British born? We know he was born in the UK. But to mention it with his nationality doesn't make sense. It is mentioned. So let's just let him stay Canadian. And not associate his nationality with his birthplace. C'mon we can agree on that. I request here and apologise for the "what is wrong with you all?" comment. It will make more sense. Hughes Anderson (talk) 23:17, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please accept me request. Because Canadian or British-born Canadian. Canadian is good.i dont know about your opinions but please agree on my opinion. It'll make me sleep good at night. Please. Hughes Anderson (talk) 00:37, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Having looked at our English Canada article which says English-Canadian is primarily contrasted with French-Canadian, I more strongly agree now with using British-born Canadian in place of English-Canadian. Schazjmd (talk) 15:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

British born shouldn't be represented that way with his nationality. We know that. It's in the box. We r here talking about something else. Hughes Anderson (talk) 00:07, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hughes Anderson, British-born Canadian is accurate. He holds a British passport. Here is a source that he holds dual citizenship. Schazjmd (talk) 00:20, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Do you even know the difference between nationality and citizenship? We cannot associate nationality with ones POB or descent or citizenship. It's a relation between the country and and a person. His POB is mentioned in the box. No need to associate that with his nationality. Its about English-Canadian or just 'Canadian'. I hope you know that. Hughes Anderson (talk) 00:28, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Per MOS:CONTEXTBIO, The opening paragraph should usually provide context for the activities that made the person notable. In most modern-day cases this will be the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident (bold added by me). He is a citizen of both countries. Schazjmd (talk) 00:36, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the proof that kiefer sutherland is only Canadian. 14:48

Keanu Reeves is a British citizen too. But he is canadian because he identifies himself as canadian. So does Kiefer sutherland. So now change it. Hughes Anderson (talk) 00:38, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The question asked in the video is: do you think of yourself as Canadian or American? Nobody is trying to add American to the article. Schazjmd (talk) 00:41, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Now If you have an authentic source like this. We'll keep it this way. Or it going to be changed. Hughes Anderson (talk) 00:43, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The questions dont have english in them because everyone knows there is no sense in relating that with his nationality. He grew up in Canada and America. English is out. It can't be considered his nationality. So he is canadian. Hughes Anderson (talk) 23:36, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing left to argue about. Please with all due respect. Let's just change it and agree. Hughes Anderson (talk) 23:38, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
