Early Life[edit]

So, I decided to enter this section in the hopes that someone would enter some real information there. I do not have access to a good source on the life of Egan. Someone please help out with this section. --Lexandalf (talk) 21:35, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Main works[edit]

A quirk that I noticed was that the book "Structural communication" in Egan's list of published works is linked to the page about the topic with the same name. Shouldn't the book tittle be linked to an article about the book, which would then have a link to the topic within? If anyone that comes across this has read that book by Egan, I them to create the article about it and modify the links in this article. (Lexandalf (talk) 01:46, 24 July 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Biography[edit]

This section was also subject to plagiarism. I have fixed it so that the info is properly cited. --Lexandalf (talk) 04:37, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Understandings[edit]

I just deleted the contents of this section. I checked the source and it turned out to be plagiarism. It was exactly what was written on the website with just a few words changed. However, I think that this is probably a good section to have in there, but it needs to be done properly. The information can be found at http://www.ierg.net/about/briefguide.html, but it needs to be properly summarized to meet the wikipedia guidelines. I won't have time to do it soon, but I will get it done eventually if no one has time to do it now. --Lexandalf (talk) 04:02, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Awards and honors[edit]

I am sure he got something or other between the years of 2001 and 2010...If someone finds a source about this feel free to put it in.

Even though the edit that Charlotte2341 did deleted the previous information, it appears that the source used has info that is not yet included in this article. It can be found at http://www.educ.sfu.ca/profiles/?page_id=134/. I will add it in eventually if no one else beats me to it. Lexandalf (talk) 04:34, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

I found one of the links in this section was broken. I decided to remove it. However, if anyone ever notices the page put back up, it should be reinserted. Here is the link: biography --Lexandalf (talk) 14:36, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Egan's page at Simon Fraser University is a broken link. Lifesnadir (talk) 20:30, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Other[edit]

In what way has Egan

"called into question the work of Jean Piaget and progressive educators, notably Herbert Spencer and John Dewey"

??? Should this say "has questioned"? Called into question" gives the impression that empirical research has backed some sort of unravelling of previous work. Piaget's work is the subject of a veritable mountain of research and practice. I have changed the wording accordingly as no further information is given.

From Lexandalf-

I aggree with your edit LookingGlass. Egan's critique of Piaget is not based on empirical data, but rather philosophical foundations. Your wording is superior.

I also changed the passage "...intellectual stages (Egan calls them understandings) that mark different ages from birth to adulthood." To: "...intellectual stages (Egan calls them understandings) that occur during a person’s intellectual development."

In his book "Getting it wrong from the beginning", Egan emphatically states that he does not believe that intelectual development is tied to or marked by the learner's age or state of physical develpment.
