Untitled[edit]

Kings Dominion is obviously closely related to Kings Island, sharing some attractions, former attractions and started by a joint venture that included Kings Island founder Taft Broadcasting. Should details of that be included? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.208.251.23 (talkcontribs) 15:33, 10 November 2005

I would think so. Being part of the "Kings" chain of parks would have had a profound influence on the original park layout and choice of rides. Canonblack 18:50, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My recent expansion to this article...[edit]

Please check it for WP:NPOV, especially the section about the Cedar Fair purchase, and add more sources if you know of any. Having been to this park before, I thought I had a lot of good information to add; but, at the same time, I don't want my bias to be weighing in on the article. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 04:49, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Flight of Fear up for sale[edit]

Can I get a citation/source for Flight of Fear being for sale? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.174.53.193 (talkcontribs)

The Screamscape page, which is already cited in the article, said that there were reports that FoF was sold to another park for over $7 million, although they didn't give a link to the actual report. However, most of what's on Screamscape is only rumors. PKDPlace has had extensive discussion about it (45 pages so far), but their forum is closed to non-members. I'm trying to find other sources besides forums; news articles would be best, but we aren't likely to get any until FoF either reopens at PKD or moves somewhere else. Essentially, what they were saying at PKDPlace was that Paramount Parks was planning to start a "ride rotation" program which would send FoF to Carowinds or Canada's Wonderland (PKD's to PCW, and PKI's to PC). Another plan, I think, was to sell the ride to a non-Paramount park. After Cedar Fair bought PKD, the ride rotation plan was canceled. Cedar Fair has a reputation for not letting rides which are in decent working order just sit around and not get used, which is in stark contrast to trip reports I've read from Six Flags and Paramount Parks this year. So rumor has it that FoF is currently undergoing the maintenance that it would have gotten in the offseason last year (several people who have seen what's going on from Volcano or Anaconda have reported that there is some painting going on around the ride, and that ride operators on other rides have been mentioning FoF more lately) and may be reopening at PKD within the next several weeks. These are only rumors, so please keep that in mind. PKD's PR staff have been responding to all queries about FoF this year with "Flight of Fear will not operate here during the 2006 season" and have not been giving anyone any additional information. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 19:37, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

Is there a reason other than the lack of availability that there are not photos in this article? I actually have some photos, but I don't want to share them if they're either unwanted or inappropriate somehow. Erechtheus 21:31, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can detect no reason not to share the photos, so I will upload and add them when I can. Erechtheus 21:43, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Land of the Doz/Dooz[edit]

This ride was really called Land of (the) Dooz, not Doz (as in Doswell, Virginia). For evidence, one can see this Kings Dominion map from 1980, posted at PkdPlace. I'll change the article accordingly.

Also, for those interested, this 1978 park map gives a good idea of how big Lake Charles used to be, although things don't look like they're drawn to scale very well on this map. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 18:34, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Expanding attraction lists[edit]

I expanded the list of WaterWorks attractions just now by adding a history of WaterWorks and descriptions of each attraction. I'm planning to do the same for the other sections of the park within the coming days and weeks. This isn't too "park fan-crufty", is it? The article will probably get very long by the time I'm done. I just figured that expanding the section was better than simply giving a bullet-point list of the attractions, per Wikipedia:WikiProject Virginia's quality scale guidelines. I was a little surprised that this article is still only start-class despite the history expansion and all of the sources and pictures that have come with, and since, it; I hope that less reliance on bullet-point lists will start pushing this article up the quality scale. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 04:11, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've also done the Congo section tonight. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 04:42, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PkdPlace is now closed[edit]

I used PkdPlace for most of my source material in writing the history sections of this article. After several days of downtime earlier this month, the owners, who lost interest in the park during the CBS ownership in early 2006 and have been running a new site for Busch Gardens Europe, have taken the site down. You can use the site's most recent listing in the Internet Archive to access the old files. That version of it should have most of the same source material that I posted in the ref tags. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 01:54, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

KD's Future[edit]

Do you think we should include an article of Kings Dominion's future?BeaverWithChainsaw 23:56, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. Do you have any references/reliable sources that describe the future of Kings Dominion? ~a (usertalkcontribs) 01:16, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I have sources. BeaverWithChainsaw 11:56, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A section in the KD article should be fine then. You might want to read this section that talks about how/when to describe future events. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 13:35, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

lot's of pictues[edit]

I'm going to be adding tons of new pictures. Be ready people. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BeaverWithChainsaw (talkcontribs).

Fair use rationale for Image:Kd media image.jpg[edit]

Resolved

Image:Kd media image.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Man decapitated on the Galaxie???[edit]

I'm questioning part of this article that claims that a man was decapitated on the Galaxie roller coaster. I believe that he died due to a blow to the head, having stood up and hit part of the frame, but he was not decapitated.

I do not have any sources to quote on this, other than having worked at the park a few years after this event, and talked to some first-hand witnesses.

Removed decapitation reference.

Does anyone else have any more information about this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dskinner42 (talkcontribs) 03:59, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ski Show on Lake Charles[edit]

It was a big deal when I was a teenager to be a part of the ski show at Kings Dominion and yout article does not mention it. This was the purpose of creating Lake Charles at the park. Is the a source for you to go to for this part of the park's history? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.95.95.170 (talk) 16:20, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • This was recently done in this article, but the names were not correct. I've gone through and revised the names according to the 2010 park map and the park's website's ride listings. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 22:59, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I changed the names in Planet Snoopy & KidZville into the names used at the park during the 2010 season. They were also used on the website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.250.167.28 (talk) 02:23, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ownership, name etc[edit]

From what I can tell, these edits are basically wrong [1]. The park was sold and is no longer owned by Paramount Parks [2]. With this the name was also eventually changed. Take a look at their website for example. In any case, even if this wasn't true, that versions seems to contradict itself since it says it happened, but then also says that the name is still the old name and even has 2 eras until present. If these claims are wrong, source are needed to support this so we can fix the article including the contradiction. Nil Einne (talk) 19:00, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

They look wrong to me too based on the source provided :/ --Cameron11598 (Talk) 19:34, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The editor making those recent edits was reverted several times. Unfortunately, this article isn't as heavily watched as its sister park's, Kings Island, which has a lot more info regarding ownership history. Hopefully at some point, that will change in this article. --GoneIn60 (talk) 10:24, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
They're back. As promised, I'm not touching it. I'm leaving it wrong and letting someone else clean up the mess. --McDoobAU93 11:13, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bstanard98: Kings Dominion, along with sister parks Kings Island and others, were sold in 2006 to Cedar Fair (see this press release). KECO management ended in 1992 when Paramount bought the park. You're being asked a final time to stop inserting incorrect information, including dates and formatting, as you did in these edits. If you need help or assistance, please ask. Thank you. --GoneIn60 (talk) 22:45, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

General Managers in infobox[edit]

The list of every person who has ever served as park General Manager does not belong in the page's infobox. To a first approximation, nobody cares about this information at all; but in no case should it be given such valuable real estate. I am going to be bold and trim it, leaving only the current GM. If any editor feels strongly that readers need to know who was in charge in 1978—something we don't bother to tell readers about such companies as General Motors or Mitsubishi—I think they ought to consider making a section at the bottom of the page. Regulov (talk) 13:48, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah that seems sensible, thanks. Herostratus (talk) 15:24, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
