Assessment Report[edit]

  1. Article needs to be expanded using Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements as a guide.
  2. It should make greater use of recommended sections, using Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements as a guide.
  3. Photos need to be added.
  4. References and Citations are crucial for wikipedia, and so these must be added as the article is expanded. Make sure that as many as possible are "in-line" citations.(See WP:References, WP:V, and WP:CITE for guidance.)

Notable Residents[edit]

In accordance with advice given in WP:RS about notable residents, I've removed the entry and placed it here pending verification. It had been flagged as needing verification for over one year, and so it is long overdue for removal from the article page. If it can be verified, it could be re-added, but not before:

Thank you.  DDStretch  (talk) 20:21, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's mention of it all here: http://archive.warringtonguardian.co.uk/2002/4/23/197083.html Although it mentions Kingsley Primary School rather than CP specifically it also mentions the headteacher Mr Rowe, who retired from CP last year. Ssherlock (talk) 08:41, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it might be all right. Why not use some of the other references as a model and add it yourself, to get some practice in at doing references?  DDStretch  (talk) 10:36, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've done it but would be grateful if you could check everything is in place correctly. Thanks. Ssherlock (talk) 18:21, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. You just made a couple of small errors, but did well for the first reference you wrote. The first error was the date/accessdate stuff. The accessdaymonth and accessyear is the date at which you read the article in order to write the reference. That is needed in case the webpage gets altered at some point. You placed the date the article was published there, and that goes in the date field. However, no big problem. The second error is more easy to make, as many webpages don't seem to make it clear enough what the titles are. The problem is the big banner on many pages of newspapers advertising the publisher or the paper's name. That's what you put in the title, whereas I think it is better to put the bold title just above the main text of the article in as the title. However, in this general case, there can be some uncertainty about what to put there. I think it may be better to alter it as I have done. On the whole, I think you can say you've effectively got the hang of references on wikipedia, though. Now, we've used a "citation template" in this instance, because it relieves one of the burden of knowing what goes in brackets, what gets italicised and what order the different things go in. You can do it all by hand if you want, but you need to make sure you get all the references to use a consistent style. You can read about it all on WP:CITE, if you want to know more.  DDStretch  (talk) 18:35, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops. Just noticed there is another unverified notable resident who is a living person. So, I've transferred the name, above, as well.  DDStretch  (talk) 18:45, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note section updates[edit]

How do you update the Notes section? The web site address for Kingsley St. John's is now out of date - the correct one is http://www.kingsley-st-johns.cheshire.sch.uk/ Ssherlock (talk) 17:53, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do it, and if you compare the versions after I've done it, you should be able to see what happens. It may be a bit counterintuitive at first. (look at the History tab for the article, and I hope it is clear what you then do)  DDStretch  (talk) 18:31, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you've pressed the right buttons, you should see a page like this.  DDStretch  (talk) 18:33, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I corrected the text along with that (now I know how to!). Thanks. Ssherlock (talk) 18:38, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! You're right. I forgot about that! Anyway, now you know roughly how it gets done. I found the way of doing references to be rather tricky to get used to at first, which is a pity, as they are a main part of writing a properly sourced encyclopaedia. So it is worth spending some time to make sure you know how to do it.  DDStretch  (talk) 18:43, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
