This guy's site is badly organized, but somewhere on it he had some photos of them building KIFT. I'm not sure where they are exactly, but I remember seeing them there in the past. I don't think he mentions who the designer was. From what I understand, Universal filmed KR2000 in San Antonio, TX, and if I'm not mistaken they simply hired a local custom body shop to make a Pontiac Banshee from a Mitsubishi 3000GT.

As I recall, when the movie initally came out the internet hadn't really caught on yet on a widespread level. I do know there were a number of other services (Compuserve, Prodigy, etc]]) out at the time but the internet wasn't really well known yet. If the producers didn't know of the rise of the internet yet, it does stand to reason in my mind that they would assume that the FAX would be a primary method of electronic communications.

I see what you're saying, but that was a "misconception" on the writer's part that fax machines would be common everywhere in 2000, even in cars. Look at Back to the Future Part II (which was made in 1989), there were fax machines everywhere in the McFly family home - and I think one in the closet or bathroom too. The movie takes place in like 2015 or something! It's 2006 and I don't have a fax machine. My computer can send faxes, but I don't have a dedicated fax machine. In 1991 they probably thought fax machines would be everywhere, and they had no reason to think otherwise, but they obviously thought wrong and I noted that. I tried doing the same thing in a comment on Back to the Future II but they deleted it saying it was original research. Cyberia23 09:08, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Set in Seattle?[edit]

It's been a while since I've seen this movie (something happened to the tape I recorded it on, probably ten years ago), but I don't remember any basis to believe it was set in Seattle. Or San Antonio, where some of the exteriors were filmed, or anywhere else specific. I vaguely remember seeing California flags (outside the cryo-prison at the end, for example). I'm taking such language out pending some references, or an explanation here.

Okay, "KIFT" is a fan-term. It is never used in the movie. Why is it used so proliferately in this article? The only thing the car is ever called in the movie is the Knight 4000. They never even bring up the term Knight Industries.

Well.. Yes, actually. The information shouldn't tout a fan-term as if its official. Also, it was just Knight 4000, "Industries" was never mentioned.

TV PILOT?[edit]

Does anyone know if this movie was intended as something like a TV pilot? The whole plot, way they took care of certain characters and the general set up seemed to imply that they were trying to set up a new KITT and driver for future adventures, etc.) It always felt like a pilot to me... or at least an effort to generate a spin off. The Knight 4000's features section removal?[edit]

Triva section[edit]
