Request immediate removal of vandalism in "Early Life" Kradamite (talk) 08:34, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that "going to Hollywood" on "American Idol" is in and of itself notability, but I'm giving the user the benefit of the doubt. The formatting still needs work, though. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 03:20, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pease rebuild this page as soon as posoble. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnny0929 (talkcontribs) 02:26, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"He is married to Katy O'Connell which now is Katy Allen. They got married in Sept. of 2008." <--this is worded strangely and there are no sources. will someone find sources, and then change it if it turns out that it's true or delete it if it's false. I looked up "kris allen wife" and nothing came up that said anything about that. 75.57.240.173 (talk) 22:46, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In the "Early Life" section there is information about his being able to play the guitar, piano, and ukulele. When he appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday, 5/21/2009, he mentioned that he also knows how to play the Viola. Family information/church information[edit]

We should not include personal information that is not sourced at all in a BLP. I have removed it. H2O Shipper 22:48, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Missionary Work.[edit]

On a forum, someone linked one article (maybe two) about his missionary work in several Eastern Hemisphere countries, plus one or more South American nations. If someone could locate these articles, I think they would be excellent biographical additions to this page.--Cinemaniac86Oy_gevalt. 00:21, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No real details given, but here is an article that mentions some of the countries he's been to on missions trips. Hermione1980 17:38, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Performance Order #.[edit]

Please do not remove this. I integrated this into the charts very successfully last season. (This applies to all of the Top 12 contenders.) It is factual information, in that it is an indisputable order in which the contestant performed on that particular night. And it is relevant to anyone doing a review or synopsis of the show who wants to analyze statistics and such. (Notice how all 3 who performed last on their respective nights made the Top 12.) It is an especially good record one they all perform on the same night. Thank you.--Cinemaniac86Oy_gevalt. 00:24, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Kris pic[edit]

The present pic of Kris is horribly out of focus. I'm removing it so a better pic can be found.--Yolgnu (talk) 12:08, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am adding the picture back because in my opinion the image is not "horribly out of focus." An image can always be replaced on Wikipedia. If a free image is found, it can just as easily replace this image as adding the image to a blank field in the infobox. Aspects (talk) 14:40, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, sorry. On a living persons article an image of this quality doesn't cut it. It's better to not have it.--Yolgnu (talk) 21:17, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Horribly out of focus is not a valid reason to remove an image. Stop. Gage (talk) 21:20, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I third this. This self-validation-by-way-of-removing-everything is rather pathetic. The picture is fine. Usually, once the Tour begins, more and often clearer pictures surface. Until then, this is highly suitable.--Cinemaniac86Oy_gevalt. 01:07, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lulz.[edit]

Inaccuracy....Kris Allen went to the final 3 with Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert, NOT Alison Iraheta. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.79.252.231 (talk) 08:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You just don't get it. Kris was voted into the finals (as in the TOP 13) with Adam and Allison. They were the three to advance from Group 2.
I was wondering who was trolling and continually putting Danny as part of Group 1. Fool.--Cinemaniac86Oy_gevalt. 01:04, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stronger??[edit]

In the table that says all his performances, for the slot where they say "safe" or "elim" for the Top 2 it said "Stronger". I was unsure if that meant that Kris is stronger than Adam in terms of winning, since the finale has not aired yet, so I deleted it and replaced it with "TBA". Sorry if this made no sense to you! 98.218.189.159 (talk) 14:56, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hometown Visit.[edit]

Yolgnu felt it necessary to delete the performances he gave in Arkansas, but I replaced them. I just need to know whether you all feel finding an article that talks about it, sourcing a page with the videos of said performances, or either/or will suffice as a good source so that Yolgnu doesn't feel compelled to eliminate them again. Especially considering he claims some of them never took place, which is a fine example of poor knowledge.--Cinemaniac86Oy_gevalt. 01:13, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the alleged performances, such as "Heartless", never took place, so I do feel you should at least give sources on the talk page (since sourcing YouTube in the article is disapproved of).--Yolgnu (talk) 11:37, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And when, may I ask, did it ever say "Heartless"? I did not include "Heartless" as part of the hometown visits' songs. It would be idiotic--since that happened the week AFTER :P. My guess is one of those random IP address-only noobs did that. The same that think Danny was part of Group 2, haha.
Everything I listed though, he played:
"Man in the Mirror"
"Ain't No Sunshine"
"Falling Slowly"
"She Works Hard for the Money"
"Come Together" (on the news)
So, yeah.--Cinemaniac86Oy_gevalt. 12:14, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

POV[edit]

"Part of Allen's ability to resonate with so many Americans stemmed from being an underdog, as well as his boy next door personality and humility." This is shameless POV and advertising - it doesn't matter if it's sourced to someone's blog. This is not appropriate for Wikipedia, and indeed the other Idol winners' articles don't contain reasons for why they "resonated with so many Americans".--Yolgnu (talk) 00:10, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The vast majority of contestants don't have their auditions or Hollywood performances aired (in fact, Kris was lucky as his Hollywood group performance was aired in its entirety, as well as a generous portion of his audition). Allison Iraheta didn't; Danny and Adam are rare exceptions. To say that Kris received "virtually no screen time" and "only an audition and a Hollywood group performance" is highly misleading, as it falsely implies that this is rare for an AI contestant. Kris, in fact, received an abnormally generous amount of pre-semifinals screen time.--Yolgnu (talk) 04:53, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw this was removed and came to see it being discussed here - I have to disagree. An "abnormally generous" amount of pre-semifinals screen time? No way. Of course there are tons of cannon fodder contestants who were given no screen time. But for someone to win with such little screen time IS rare. It may not be shocking for you, but it is by no means "nonsense." I also see that that whole paragraph was well-sourced with articles mentioning his lack of screen time and how it led to his "shocking" win, so I'm gonna add it back. --Lonely Sound (talk) 05:00, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"Shocking win" is utterly POV (most commentators in the week prior to the finale expected Kris to win). And how is Kris winning with "such little screen time" rare? We didn't see a second of Kelly or Ruben prior to the semifinals, and Taylor, Jordin and David didn't share Kris's benefit of having a Hollywood performance aired. Kris was fortunate enough to have his audition and a full Hollywood performance aired. Kris received more pre-semifinals screen time than most winners, and in the semifinals and finals he received just as much screen time as any other contestant.--Yolgnu (talk) 05:35, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I never used the word "shocking." When something is in quotes, it means it is being borrowed from somewhere else. --Lonely Sound (talk) 06:17, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Kris's audition was NOT initially shown. We never actually saw it until the season was almost over (I believe it was last week?). MarkMc1990 (talk) 07:43, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it was initially shown; it's on YouTube if you'd like to take a look. And have a look here - out of the 19 who were advanced from the Louisville auditions, Kris was one of 9 to have their audition aired.--Yolgnu (talk) 07:52, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would have to disagree with Yolgnu with regards to airtime. Taylor, Jordin, and David had long enough auditions to make an impression, they did not need a Hollywood performance while Ruben got a memorable Hollywood round. Meanwhile , Kris audition was shown but only as a medley along with the other cannon fodder while his Hollywood performance was more about Matt Giraudthan him. (And compared to the treatment Lil, Danny, and Adam got) Those statements are noteworthy.--23prootie (talk) 21:52, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would have to disagree. Kris's audition made a big impact on me, while Ruben's Hollywood performance was never originally aired, only years later on Idol Rewind. Kris's audition was not with "cannon fodder" but with important contestants such as Felicia Barton. Kris got as much as airtime as Matt in Hollywood - unlike say, Lil Rounds whose group performance was never aired. Danny and Adam, as everyone knows, were special cases.--Yolgnu (talk) 09:49, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
First of all only two of those four made it to the semi-finals, one was not suppose to be on the show at all. Felicia Barton is "cannon fodder", the producers did not want her but put her in anyway since her relative lack of airtime would go against her. If it weren't for Joanna Pacitti, we may never know who she is. And compared to the rest, most of whom got at least a minute of airtime, Kris got almost none and is surpassed only Ricky Braddy as the least "pimped".--23prootie (talk) 15:21, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I may add that our opinion doesn't matter here, if the media has noted these then they should be added. And given that they mark the beginning of his Idol journey, they are noteworthy tidbits that should be included.--23prootie (talk) 15:36, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-semifinal appearance[edit]

I find it necessary to include this in the article. And Yolgnu, stop being a dictator. As far as I'm concerned, you're they only one who's saying that paragraph shouldn't. How can you have that authority when you don't even watch the show? (*note: See Allison Iraheta)--23prootie (talk) 08:38, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In my 16 months of editing Wikipedia, I can honestly say I've never had the misfortune to encounter a user as obnoxious and immature as you. Nevertheless, I'll allow the material to remain, as long it is entirely sourced, without sources being misquoted.--Yolgnu (talk) 10:49, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Um, gee thanks! What's all this about again? I don't get why you're angry?--23prootie (talk) 11:04, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, let's have a look at what the paragraph says, and whether the sources back it up:
"In the early stages of the season, he was among the finalists that received the least screen time" - none of the sources compare the other finalists' screen time to his, this is OR
"Only several seconds of his first audition, and neither of his Hollywood Week solo performances, were shown" - not stated in the sources
"although his group performance with White Chocolate (including fellow finalist Matt Giraud) was aired" - no mention of this in the sources
"The judges also asked him to participate in an un-aired sing-off with another contestant before they allowed him to enter the semifinals round." - no mention of this on WNTS
The entire paragraph is therefore OR; none of it's supported by the sources. Removed; hopefully you can find some actual sources (if there are any; there's a lot of misinformation in the paragraph as it is).--Yolgnu (talk) 14:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please read POV, the whole pararaph is substantiated by the Entertainment Weekly source alone. Please stop trolling. If you don't agree with a paragraph tag it as Neutral point of view instead of deleting it outright.--23prootie (talk) 03:35, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hot Digital Songs Chart - 06/06/2009[edit]

{{editsemiprotected}}

In the chart for Hot Digital Songs on 06/06/2009 (source:[1] and [2]), the following songs by Allen was on the chart: #4: No Boundaries, #5:Heartless, #17: Ain't no sunshine, #38: Apologize, #72: Falling Slowly, #87: What's going on, #94: To make you feel my love. Can someone add the songs and their chart position on Hot Digital Songs to Allen's Discography section? --Karius13 - May 30, 2009
Digital charts aren't allowed. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (talk) 16:25, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Very little is 'not allowed' on Wikipedia. However, I don't see that adding this is particularly adding to the information content of this article. Not done; if you disagree, please reinstate the request with an explanation of the significance.  Chzz  ►  02:43, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Childhood and Personal life[edit]

"Allen re-enrolled in classes and was planning on giving up his pursuit of a music career to finish his degree and get a "regular job.""--- this should be deleted. It looks as if when he won Idol, he re enrolled and gave up on his musical career. If this is not deleted, it should be at least rephrased or reworded. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.127.223.73 (talk) 13:51, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Friend and fellow Idol contestant Adam Lambert has subsequently described Allen as "not very religious, I don’t know where he got that label" going on to state, "he’s very open-minded to people’s lifestyles and he doesn’t judge." - This line should be removed. This does not refer to Kris' childhood and the text of the article cited is one in which Adam Lambert describes anyone who is not judgemental of his lifestyle as 'not very religious'. It does not seem like an accurate description of Kris Allen who has been a worship leader, member of Christian society at UCA, confirmed himself a 'man of God' on Larry King Live and described by his wife as having a 'Huge Heart for God' on their wedding website. Krisfan1989 (talk) 03:34, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The quote suggesting that Kris is not very religious based on Adam Lambert's article is out of place. There is entirely too much previous information about Kris to then conclude he is not very religious. Adam's article is clearly his point of view. And if you read it, his point of view is that everyone who is 'religious' is judgemental of him. Those who are tolerant of him are 'not religious'. I can't see how this can really be used to describe Kris Allen. This section should be removed.216.255.10.52 (talk) 18:51, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kris Allen single chart position references[edit]

We should not have to wait for a better source as stated in this edit, [3], when we already have current, reliable Billboard sources. Until a better source is available we should use the sources we currently have. Because of this I have added back the sources. Aspects (talk) 18:43, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with that user. Every single peak does not need it's own individual source. Plus, just wait until the song has finished it's chart run and add Billboard's source or allmusic. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (talk) 18:52, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why should we wait for a reference, when we already have reliable sources? Per Wikipedia:Verifiability, "The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material. All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation." Both of the editors that removed the sources are the ones who provided the chart positions. You should have provided sources for those positions. Once I challenged them, and found them to be correct, I added the sources that any future challenges would be answered. Aspects (talk) 19:09, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well after waiting two days with no response to my question, I am going to add back the sources to use the reliable sources we currently have to verify the chart positions. Aspects (talk) 17:48, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We've never added sources to peak positions individually in the past. They shouldn't have to be referenced and changed every single freaking week. That's why it's best (and easier) to have one or two sources after the songs chart run. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (talk) 19:03, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DialIdol[edit]

The user with the IP address 121.209.164.213 has repeatedly attempted to remove all references to DialIdol without giving proper justification. Should Allen's DialIdol scores be mentioned in the article? Kradamite (talk) 12:08, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DialIdol is not a reliable source. It only consists of people who put the program on their computer and use their computer to vote for American Idol. It is nothing more than an indicator. Aspects (talk) 23:02, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I watched DialIdol's predictions last year and this. Last year, they actually made some definitive predictions. This year, they very rarely did. And, as Aspects mentioned, they're not a reliable source in any way. Unitanode 01:05, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

US Sales.[edit]

I'm just a bit confused, with Allen's first album, Brand New Shoes. In the certification section of his Studio Albums, it was stated as has been sold 600 copies, but in the Career section, it was stated as "600 copies were given to friends and family." Now, was it sold to his family members or was it been given freely to them?Syfuel (talk) 14:51, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
