Goal trivia in Rangers section[edit]

So we're at GA status. Yay. In order to move on, the biggest problems we have are:

  1. The "early life" section is short. To be honest, we're hurting for references here. If any newspapers run anything, or if an autobiography is released, we should be able to expand this, but for now I think we're basically stuck.
  2. The Rangers section is basically a cherry-picked set of games, with no real theme to it.

Fixing point 2 should be the main focus going on. We need to establish exactly how it should be laid out (one paragraph per season? Subsections?) and trim it of random goals which don't really have greater significance.

So your saying spilt it up into season on season performance in detail, to give more depth(Monkeymanman (talk) 13:53, 30 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]
I'm saying that the section should be reworked entirely to present a view of what Boyd did at the club, rather than just being a list of random incidents in chronological order. That does not necessarily mean it needs expanded. It's easily the weakest section of the article right now. Unfortunately, it's going to require a lot of skill to fix. Rangers[edit]

Kris Boyd officially joined Rangers on 1 January 2006. He waived half of his £40,000 signing on fee, which Kilmarnock were due to pay him under the terms of his contract, to help fund the youth setup at Kilmarnock.[13]

He made his debut on 7 January 2006 against Peterhead in the Scottish Cup third round, in which he scored a hat-trick during a 5–0 win.[14] He went on to score 20 goals in 17 starts for Rangers in the second half of that season, ending it with a total of 37 goals for Rangers and Kilmarnock. He became the first player to finish top scorer at two clubs in one season, having scored 17 goals for Kilmarnock before his move.[15] He also finished second top scorer in Europe.

In season 2006 – 2007 Boyd was found to be out of favour with new manager Paul Le Guen but still managed to score 14 goals in all competitions before Walter Smith replaced Le Guen as manager halfway through the season. By the end of that season Boyd scored 25 goals for Rangers in all competitions.

The following season 2007 – 2008 saw Boyd score his 50th and 51st goals in all competitions for Rangers in a League Cup match against East Fife on 26 September 2007, 627 days after his debut. This made him the second fastest Rangers player ever to reach 50 goals for the club, behind Jim Forrest.[22] Boyd won the first trophy of his career on 16 March 2008 when Rangers defeated Dundee United to win the 2008 Scottish League Cup Final. Boyd scored both of Rangers' goals in the 2–2 draw and scored the winning penalty in the subsequent penalty shootout.[24] He also scored a double in the 2008 Scottish Cup Final, a 3–2 win over Queen of the South. He finished that season with 25 goals in all competitons for Rangers.

In season 2008 – 2009 Boyd won his first Scottish Premier League title and another Scottish Cup. He finished as top scorer again for Rangers with 31 goals in all competitions, his highest total yet, and was awarded the club's first Sam English Bowl for top Rangers scorer in a season.

Although there has been much transfer speculation while Boyd has been with Rangers he has turned down all possible moves to date. Overall he has scored 107 goals for Rangers including 7 hat-tricks.

Thats an initial attempt, could add / change it to suit, refs would need sorting also.(Monkeymanman (talk) 17:31, 4 November 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Great work. I've incorporated a slightly modified version of the above into the article. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 13:58, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SPL goals total[edit]

Soccerbase states that Boyd has scored 150 SPL goals as of now, which is what is in the article now (Killie 64 and Rangers 86). BBC Radio Scotland have been reporting his goals total each time he has scored recently (due to him approaching Henrik Larsson's total), and they said on Saturday that his most recent goal was his 149th. Does anyone know what is causing this discrepancy? I think it is important to check this if/when he gets close to breaking Larsson's SPL record. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 12:35, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is a mix up with his goal tally at Kilmarnock, he is recored as scoring 63 or 64 according to different sources. The BBC have recorded him having 63. I dont know exactly what goal is contested however. --Johnelwaq (talk) 13:01, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it was because last season or the season before he scored a goal that deflected off a defender and the ref credited him with the goal, however some of the media stated that it was an own goal, so i believe this is where the discrepancy comes from.(Monkeymanman (talk) 17:25, 23 November 2009 (UTC))[reply]
Having checked every season on soccer base and compared them to the stats on wikipedia then the one that is '1' goal different is his second season with kilmarnock, on wiki it says that he scored 5 but on soccer base it says he only scored 4. Dont know what the official stats from kilmarnock say though?(Monkeymanman (talk) 17:42, 23 November 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Semi-prot[edit]

No problem with a move to Celtic being added here if there's a reliable source but the vandalism was getting silly. --John (talk) 22:51, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Update needed[edit]

Hi guys, I think this article is starting to look quite dated after nearly 3 years since it achieved GA status. Obviously we wouldn't want it demoted, so I thought I'd list some concerns I have with the page. The entire post-Rangers career needs expanding and updating. However, at the current moment there are some unreferenced bits of info which should be easily dealt with. The style of play section is biased, too short and unsourced. That should also be looked at. The Kilmarnock section is a bit too short for me and I think it could definitely do with being expanded a little. Again the Rangrs section for me could do with a bit of expanding. There is nothing in his international career about why he stopped being picked under Levein. Also the article should be checked for dead links as I found a few. Basically I think if this article was re-reviewed at the present moment it would be demoted so I think it definitely needs a lot of work if it is too keep its status. Thanks Adam4267 (talk) 12:06, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am not in agreement with all of your criticism however I dont have the time right now to improve the article myself. What is in the article just now I am sure can be sourced. Expansion of the article could be difficult though. That in itself (shorter than most others) should not directly call for a demotion of the article. Monkeymanman (talk) 12:30, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well I believe its not GA standard. Chris said it hadn't been maintained since passing GA. Its up to you whether you want to work on it or not. But unless significant improvements are made I will delist it. I'm sorry but if an article is not GA standard it shouldn't be listed as a GA. Adam4267 (talk) 13:12, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I dont understand why it must only be me that has to work on this article. Being a member of wikiproject football I would like to think you would want to ensure that any of the projects articles that are currently GA status remain that way. Not pick and choose selectively which ones should be de-listed. Monkeymanman (talk) 15:19, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but I don't have the time to help improve it. You don't have to work on the article. If you want to you can, but you don't have to. You can ask for help at the Rangers talk page or Wikiproject football talk page. Also now that I'm the reviewer I can't help improve the article. Adam4267 (talk) 16:15, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
