Naming[edit]

What's the reason for this article title? He is known by his stage name, which is Kris Wu. Either this or Wu Yi-fan (with a hyphen, according to spelling rules for transliteration from Chinese). What is the reason for the mixed naming? Teemeah 편지 (letter) 07:37, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like Hong Kong English. "ENGLISHname Surname CHINESEname" so probably from the Cantopop; Canadian Chinese would make it "Kris Yi Fan Wu" but it'd be "Kevin Jiaheng Li" then, as this is his stagename and not his Canadian one. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 04:51, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
His stage name is Kris, at the moment. Unless he switches to using his real name in the future. The article title would still be improper by Wikipedia rules. Either the stage name, or the real name, but not mixing up several versions. We will see what name he uses when his movie comes out. Teemeah 편지 (letter) 15:02, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. It's improper naming, combining two names. --Cold Season (talk) 17:42, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Broom Awards[edit]

There have been consistent edits adding the "Golden Broom Awards" on the "Awards" section of this article.

Wikipedia aims to provide accurate information that are well-sourced. The "Golden Broom Awards" is organized by one man named Cheng Qingsong, a self-proclaimed critic who releases a web "magazine" called the Youth Film Handbook. The Youth Film Handbook is not a published magazine nor does it have readership, their weibo page[1] has 900 followers with 1 like per post or none at all. The only reason this award gets attention is because Chen Qingsong makes sure to attack popular celebrities. Giving this award any credibility is akin to including comments from a random blogger or twitter troll on a Wikipedia article. Donnie Yen received this "award" and you won't see it on his Wiki page. There is 0 reason to include it on Kris Wu's page unless the intention was malicious. Adding negative content to slander someone's name isn't what Wikipedia represents.

I am of the opinion that this should not be added to this article. I hope a consensus is reached. Everypart (talk) 11:14, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Two points here. One, this is not a "random blogger or twitter troll". The Youth Film Handbook has its own Wikipedia article, where the awards are covered (and sourced in reliable sources). If you Google "Golden Broom awards" you will see coverage in reliable sources, not only major Chinese sources but also from countries outside China Australia USA, in books [1], and so on. Secondly, compare the Golden Raspberry Awards, the US equivalent; if you look at articles like Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock you will see those "awards" listed in exactly the same way. We do not remove reliably sourced and covered information purely because it is not positive to the person concerned. Black Kite (talk) 11:47, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, SBS Pop Asia is not a reliable source. I'm not sure why you added them. Second of all, Youth Film Handbook having its own Wikipedia page just shows that whoever made that page does not actually know that it barely exists as an actual magazine and is only used by the "editor" as a front to his "Golden Broom Awards". If you know Chinese then you can search around and see that the magazine isn't published and has no readership. Check their social media. And yes, they are a random blogger. His controversial awards getting attention does not make him a credible source. He is not a professional and has no background or experience in film.

Controversy sells in Chinese media. If you check the Chinese articles, they all are written the same way and copy pasted because they all ultimately have one source. Those English articles take their cues from Chinese articles. Do you not notice that there is one person and one person alone mentioned in all these articles? It's because this all came from one guy. Here's an article about its lack of credibility. [2]

If Perez Hilton held his own awards show, would you find it credible? The guy behind the Golden Broom Awards is using celebrities to boost his own profile. I would hope Wikipedia would be above childish slander. Everypart (talk) 12:37, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wikipedia works on reliable sources. SBS (Special Broadcasting Service) is, indeed, a reliable source. The awards are covered in reliable sources, as I've just pointed out. The Youth Film Handbook has an article because ... it is covered in reliable sources. I'm unsure how you're not getting this concept. The fact that you don't like that particular award is , I'm afraid, covered by WP:IDONTLIKEIT. Black Kite (talk) 15:18, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
