@Iazyges: Sorry for not getting to this earlier. I am user:Nittavinoda, the original user who nominated the article for GA status. I had to create a new account as I forgot my credentials. Could you let me know if you're still waiting for Citations in the "Early Life" section or if its okay now? When I reviewed the Page history, I found several socks of an abusive user trying to add junk to the article but these were diligently removed by other users and admins. The section looks okay to me now. Please continue with the review and let me know if I can be of any help. Thanks Nittawinoda (talk) 03:41, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Prose Suggestions[edit]

Please note that all of these are suggestions, and can be implemented or ignored at your discretion.

Lede[edit]

May want to expand the lede, given the length of the article.

I'd like to leave the lede as it is as I feel it is better when it is short and crisp. The rest of the article has quite a lot of information so in my opinion a short lede would enable the reader to dive right into the various sections. Thanks, Nittawinoda (talk) 16:35, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Early life[edit]

  • Kulottunga Chola I was the maternal grandson of Emperor Rajendra Chola I through his daughter Ammangadevi. suggest:
Kulottunga Chola I was the maternal grandson of Emperor Rajendra Chola I through his mother Ammangadevi. or Kulottunga Chola I was the maternal grandson of Emperor Rajendra Chola I through his Rajendra's daughter Ammangadevi.
Corrected as follows - "Kulottunga Chola I was the maternal grandson of Emperor Rajendra Chola I through the latter's daughter Ammangadevi." Thanks Nittawinoda (talk) 15:53, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Accession[edit]

  • The Tamil poem Kalingathuparani describes that the king was brought up in the court of his maternal grandfather in Gangaikondacholapuram suggest:
According to the Tamil poem Kalingathuparani, Kulottunga was brought up in the court of Rajendra in Gangaikondacholapuram.
Corrected as suggested above. Nittawinoda (talk) 16:08, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • During his youth, Kulottunga participated in many of the wars beside kings like Rajendra Chola, and his successors like Rajadhiraja, Rajendra II and Virarajendra Chola.
During his youth, Kulottunga participated in many wars, serving alongside both Rajendra and his later successors, Rajendra II and Virarajendra.
Corrected as suggested above. Nittawinoda (talk) 16:08, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • During this time, he engaged in the northern campaigns of the empire where he secured several victories and made his mark in Sakkarakotam. what does "Made his mark" mean here? Suggest clarifying.
Changed as follows - "During this period, he engaged in the northern campaigns of the empire in and around Sakkarakottam and Vayiragaram where he secured several victories and proved his mettle in warfare." Nittawinoda (talk) 16:08, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • According to the Parani poem, it was around this time that the Chola king died and the state was thrown into a state of anarchy until Abhaya (as Kulottunga is referred to in the poem) returned and restored order. suggest:
According to the Kalingathuparani poem, it was around this time that King Virarajendra died and the state was thrown into a state of anarchy until Kulottunga, referred to as Abhaya by the poem, returned and restored order.
Corrected as suggested above. Nittawinoda (talk) 16:08, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Nittavinoda: I'd suggest you seek a Peer Review or Guild of Copy editor run-through; a lot of the language is quite confusing in places. I'd be happy to keep this open as long as needed, or re-take the nom as soon as issues are run through, but I think a lot of prose issues need to be fixed, and I'm not sure I can weed them all out. @Iazyges: I've corrected the article as suggested above. Please continue and review the rest of the article. Nittawinoda (talk) 16:08, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Status query[edit]

Iazyges, it's been a good seven weeks since you posted here. While the nominator hasn't edited on Wikipedia since July 17, before you opened the review, others have been editing to address the issues you raised. I am surprised to see that you ticked criterion 2, verifiability, given the number of "citation needed" templates you added on August 2. As best I can determine, the "citation needed" templates have been addressed by other editors, mostly by removing the uncited material. Can you please continue or conclude the review? Many thanks.
