I would like to provide some photos for the articles on LaVale and elsewhere in the Cumberland area but am unclear on how to do that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.78.201.195 (talk) 14:24, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

LaVale[edit]

I changed the article name back to "LaVale," but just so there's no confusion, the spellings of "La Vale" and "Lavale" are commonly seen for computer-generated geotags from Google and Facebook, but the correct spelling is "LaVale." The US Census Bureau official spelling is "La Vale" with a space[1]. The U.S. Board on Geographic Names lists the official name as "La Vale" with a space[2] (see also: U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: LaVale, Maryland), and they are the national authority on place naming. They do list "LaVale" as a variant. As an unincorporated area, it can be difficult to establish authority for naming but I would defer to the official government spelling. Can you provide a written/digital citation for Mr. Feldstein's findings? Perhaps he should notify USGS to update the official naming. Eplack (talk) 14:50, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
