OK, the mountains in the photo are not, as a recent anon edit asserted, the Cascade Range--it's a long way away. But it did get me wondering. Is it possible these are the Blue Mountains and not the Wallowa Mountains? I don't know the area, so I don't know in what direction the photo was taken. The user who took the photo only made three edits, so likely won't respond to a query. Not that I don't trust that user, but anybody know for sure? Katr67 (talk) 23:46, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not intimately familiar with La Grande, but have passed through a few times. It looks like the photo was taken from somewhere around 45°19′22″N 118°06′26″W / 45.32276°N 118.10734°W / 45.32276; -118.10734 facing due east. —EncMstr (talk) 22:42, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I live in La Grande. Those are definitely the Wallowa Mountains, they are on the east side of the valley. The Blue Mountains are to the west, though the Wallowa Mountains are sometimes considered a subrange of the the Blues (see the article). Also, several anonymous editors (or the same one at several different locations) have insisted that this is a picture of the "Eagle Caps", but this is inaccurate. The Eagle Cap Wilderness is the group of snow capped mountains on the left (north) of the picture, but are only a part of the picture and of the Wallowa Mountains. Sorry, I think I kind of missed the point the first time around. Yes, that picture is definitely facing east. It is taken from the west side of the valley (the side La Grande is on). It is taken from a high elevation from a point on the foothills (so to speak) of the Blue Mountains, probably somewhere a little south (and higher up) from Morgan Lake Road and Mill Creek (there are a lot of Mill Creeks in the Grande Ronde Valley, you basically have to guess from the context which one is being referred to).
