Reptilian Misconception

A common misconception about Lacoste shirts is that they have an alligator on them, when, in fact, it's really a crocodile... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.212.214.78 (talk) 18:29, 16 April 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, I changed it... Squash 05:03, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Actually it isn't REALLY a misconception, see the company's webiste. It's actually a very famous story that in fact he was called the Alligator. This is from the Lacoste website (http://www.lacoste.com/usa/main.html):

The true story of the "Crocodile" begins in 1927. René LACOSTE liked to recount how his nickname became an emblem recognized throughout the world.

"I was nicknamed "the Alligator" by the American press, after I made a bet with the Captain of the French Davis Cup Team concerning a suitcase made from alligator skin. He promised to buy it for me if I won a very important match for our team. The public must have been fond of this nickname which conveyed the tenacity I displayed on the tennis courts, never letting go of my prey!"

"So my friend Robert GEORGE drew a 'crocodile' which I then had embroidered on the blazer I wore on the courts.

So the drawing was a of a crocodile (though it looks more like an alligator, it's snout is rather short) but Lacoste himself was call the Alligator by the American press.

Side note: recently, the Beauty & the Geek TV show had the question of what the Lacoste logo was. They gave the correct answer as "an alligator". I recently played Trivial Pursuit, and the correct answer was given as "a crocodile". --61.68.108.167 09:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

NPOV

This page has a serious NPOV problem. It reads like a company promotional brochure. OneVeryBadMan 19:57, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

maybe it's just becuase there's not enough resolution, but the lacoste logo in the picture looks fake... the tail looks blunt, not pointed, and it jsut looks weird — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.90.11.28 (talk) 23:38, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Removal of the "Genuine Products"??

I found this section of the article very useful, as it has helped me personally spot fake Lacoste shirts. I would like to see it replaced, the person who deleted it didn't give a good enough reason as to why they did, their reasons sounded purely self centered. Colinspocket 22:06, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm not the one who removed it but I agree to its removal. It's not about whether it's helpful or not, Wikipedia is not a manual (that's an actual guideline if I'm not mistaken). Also, it's dreadfully unencyclopedic.Mackan 00:37, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Lacoste Shirt Costs

How much do LaCoste shirts cost?--~~ (Please post answer on my talk page). — Preceding unsigned comment added by MP123 (talkcontribs) 04:35, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

They cost 72$USD and 98$ CAD, the pricing varies from region to region. That's just for the classic polo btw. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.166.249.107 (talk) 08:29, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

£45 in the U.K.--86.29.244.187 19:49, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

It really depends. Since Lacoste has become a shirt of choice in the Hip Hop community in the u.S. you can find the solid colored ones for as much as $100usd, and if it is striped $150usd, then if it gets any fancier than two colors I have seen them for $175usd. When I first saw these shirts in my local clothing store which is geared toward the Hip Hop crowd a couple years ago I was like wow when I was growing up we made fun of kids that wore these and you could get them at K-Mart and Pic-n-Save stores in the u.S. For like $5usd a piece. It's funny to watch how trends and fads can change the price of a product. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GZUS96 (talkcontribs) 12:35, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

The silver-grey crocodile

There's a grey crocodile (instead of the green one) on several shoes, pullovers, jackets and probably some more clothes. Is this a special label like the "Purple Label" by Ralph Lauren? What's the matter?

I've also seen a pure silver/metal crocodile sign that wasn't made of wool but of something that looked like metal, maybe just aluminium. It appears on several jackets. --84.113.3.151 10:32, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

I work in Lacoste store, the silver crocodile does not neccessarily mean a special line. However Lacoste does have a special club line , a typical Club Line Polo with 95% cotton and 5% elast, runs about 130$ Canadian ..I don't kno wwhy but the standard polo in Canada is 100% cotton (Dispite what the Website claims) . IF you look in the label, the special club line has a silver croc on the label and the tag also has a "YOu have just purchased a special club line lacoste shirt, ranging from the best of .." etc.. IMO it's a damn rip off

Fair use rationale for Image:Lacostelogo.jpg

Image:Lacostelogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Who cares about size 2?

I deleted a sentence randomly placed in the History section which stated that, "To many people's surprise, Lacoste does indeed make a size 2, which is a XXS in American sizes." This detail appears irrelevant to the history of the company. Conntomas (talk) 10:25, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

License

The article contains both "licence" and "license". Should it be one or the other? I don't want to edit it because I'm not 100% certain if there's a Wikipedia standard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.202.119.246 (talk) 14:05, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Chav/ned brand

Lacoste, while a relatively expensive brand is, in the UK (as far as I have experienced), most popular with the working class chav/ned subcultures and is often associated with them. Should mention of this be integrated into the article? 78.86.61.94 (talk) 16:52, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Disagree with the above. "Most popular" according to who / what? I'd say that, yes, expensive polo shirts do have some form of status in "Chav" culture but then so does anything expensive... Also, walking around richer areas in London and Manchester will indicate that the middle & upper classes contribute to sales of Lacoste polo shirts at least in the same numbers. nikthestoned (talk) 16:27, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
