Hello AFC reviewer, Here is a message I received from the author regarding the best sources for establishing notability:

1) New Band of the Week - Guardian:

Criteria 1 - subject of non trivial work

Criteria 5 - released two or more albums on a major record label or on one of the more important indie labels (in this instance her EP was released on Warp Records)

2) Midori Takada / Lafawndah, Le Renard Bleu EP - Pitchfork

Criteria 1 - subject of non trivial work

Criteria 5 - released two or more albums on a major record label or on one of the more important indie labels (in this instance the EP was released on K7 Records)

Criteria 6 - is an ensemble that contains two or more independently notable musicians

Criteria 10 - has performed music for a work of media that is notable (in this instance creating soundtracks for fashion house Kenzo)

3) 2019's best albums - Resident Advisor

Criteria 1 - subject of non trivial work
