First of all, I'm sorry for your loss, @Blkhljh.
I am not a very advanced/experienced editor, so I wouldn't have the answers to all of your questions, but I happened to run across this message, so I figured I'd respond here. If you still do have questions, you can certainly ask at the Wikipedia Teahouse, which is regularly monitored for questions from newer editors.
I know that it can be particularly tricky to find images which can be legally used on Wikipedia. Photos must usually have certain licenses from the photographer. Here is a page with an overview of how to work with images on Wikipedia: Wikipedia:Images.
Additionally, I believe that it is generally discouraged for editors to edit articles about people that they know personally. The editor may have good intentions, but may not be able to cover the topic in a balanced and encyclopedic manner (or at least the article content might be perceived this way). This is referred to as a conflict of interest, and there is more information at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Editors can ask questions about this at the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard.
