Restructure?

I propose to change this into a structured list by language family, sub-family, etc. etc. Since there isn't always consensus on classificatoins, I'd preferentially use whatever is already in Wikipedia, secondarily using the Ethnologue webpage. For example WP uses Magaric languages where Ethnologue says Kham-Magar-Chepang-Sunwari. I would go with Magaric while probably footnoting Ethnologue when there are significant differences.

Major languages can be marked typographically using bolding or possibly a range of font sizes. LADave (talk) 17:25, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Number of languages

The box at right says, "Nepal Bhasa, Bhojpuri, Maithili, Tharu, Gurung, Tamang, Magar, Awadhi, Sherpa, Kiranti and other 100 different indigenous languages," which is 110 languages. The Ethnologue gives 124 languages in use and two dead languages. Where does the 110 number come from? --BenjaminBarrett12 (talk) 07:23, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

English as Lingua Franca??

I don't think English can qualify as a Lingua Franca. Yes, it is used as a technical language and as the medium of education in schools. But that is not the definition of Lingua Franca. Ever seen a Tamang and a Rai, both Nepalis, meeting at a Chowk and beginning to talk in English? 100 out of 100 times, they will be speaking in Nepali. Khas?

Someone just changed the link in the table that had read "Khas Nepali" to read "Nepali". It had been linked to Khas Nepali language, but that's a direct to Nepali language; the link now leads there directly. This change seems to make sense, except that there is also a link reading "Khas" at the end of the table, just above "Sanskrit". The "Khas" link leads to Khas language, but that's a redirect to ... Nepali language. The article at Nepali language gives the impression that "Khas Nepali" is just a fuller designation for the Nepali language, and gives no indication of the existence of a separate language named Khas.
