Notability[edit]

Vera Búcsú is a very good photographer and artist. Rowing New Zealand uses her to take photos of the New Zealand team at international competitions. She donated a few photos to Commons before Rowing New Zealand for some bizarre reason put a stop to it. Schwede66 11:01, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Given that I know Vera (I've worked with her to get good quality photos uploaded to Commons), I asked her whether there is other content that can help establish notability. Yes, there is. The state that the article was in certainly did not demonstrate that. That Onel5969 moved it to draft space was the right thing to do.

Vera provided four pieces, one of which is online and the other three are accessible via Dropbox. Some quick thoughts:

  • The Hungarian edition of Forbes had a lengthy article in August 2020; that looks like an excellent source.
  • The March 2016 edition of the Fitness Journal had a one-page article; that looks decent.
  • The Principals Magazine published a one-pager. It doesn't have an author identified and you initially get the impression that it's a advert. But the last two paragraphs do suggest that it's based on an interview and written by somebody working for that magazine. I could ask Vera if you want me to.
  • The two-page article published in the Rowing NZ Oar Sport Magazine is identified as "sponsored content" and thus not neutral.

Obviously, I have a WP:COI and can't add any content to the article. Others could, based on the above material. Rower51, do you want to have another go? Schwede66 06:23, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, since I last looked at the Dropbox folder, new content has been added. Shouldn't be any trouble getting this over the notability line, eh? Schwede66 06:30, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What I've seen in sources is "Laszlo Boats NZ" as opposed to the spelled out version for the country. Indeed, when I check on the Companies Office's website, I see that the correct version is "NZ". Schwede66 06:50, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Schwede66, I'll take on the article. I looked at the dropbox sourcing. The Women's Weekly is a primary source, since it's an interview. Good for some facts, but not towards notability. Rowing NZ is sponsored content, plus, as per your comments above, she's affiliated with the organization, so again, non-independent, good for sourcing but not notability. Principals Magazine is a good piece. As are the March Fitness Journal, and the Forbes Hungary piece. Definitely takes it over the notability hump. Won't be able to get to it until this weekend, but with Mother's Day this Sunday, it might get a tad busy then as well. If you don't see the article developed by Sunday night, feel free to ping me to give me a bit of a nudge.
Meanwhile, if Vera has any pix which have to do with the company and don't mind uploading them to Commons, that would be a good thing. Onel5969 TT me 08:45, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome. I'm sure she'd happily contribute some photos. I shall ask. Schwede66 11:05, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Okay, I've written a rudimentary article, taking what I feel are the encyclopedic information from each of the pieces. Before moving it to mainspace, I wonder if you could ask for more information about the Principals and Rowing NZ pieces? Specifically, it would look better if we had a date and page # for the Principals piece, and a date for the Rowing NZ. Onel5969 TT me 00:14, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Vera has supplied / shown me details for OarSport. I've added those reference details. Schwede66 20:01, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to say thank you for your help on this. Onel5969 TT me 22:55, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've set up a redirect from the NZ title but I wonder whether this article should be moved to it, Onel5969. Schwede66 01:44, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Shoot. I meant to do that when I moved it to mainspace. Will take care of it. Onel5969 TT me 09:08, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
