Stan Laurel[edit]

Does anybody know, whether this canyon is named after Stan Laurel? -- 80.129.58.251 13:07, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can't imagine that it would have been. More likely, it was named after the California bay laurel, a native tree which grows in canyons. -Will Beback 21:11, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A local realtor and her musician husband stated that Stan Laurel did have a house on the southeast corner of Riverside Drive and Laurel Canyon Blvd in what is considered Valley Village and the road is named after him. It was a large property extending to the 101 and several blocks to the east. David Byrne lived in New York city, in the 80s-early 90s, and currently lives in Florida. Does he have a second home in Laurel Canyon? If so, can anyone verify where his home is, in Laurel Canyon?

Notable residents section[edit]

Does anyone agree that the "notable residents" section should be cut down to only verifiable residents? All of these are probably rumors, and even if they're true, I doubt there will be any public sources verifying this data. Actually I suspect many of these names could be sourced with some effort, using books such as the cited Canyon of Dreams[1] and assorted news and magazine sources. The list in its current state does have a tinge of the ridiculous about it, but Laurel Canyon's history of creatives and celebs is one of its most distinctive and often-mentioned features, so I'd suggest that we try to keep and improve some of this.--Arxiloxos (talk) 20:46, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed that many of them are probably sourceable. Rather than a list, though, I'd prefer to see the paragraph in the History section that deals with the subject expanded a little bit. A list of every famous person who's ever lived in the canyon doesn't tell the reader much about the canyon. But famous people who lived there and helped give the canyon the role it plays in the culture of Los Angeles are relevant. That's why I think it'd be better to remove the list and work with the sources to build out the paragraph, possibly even breaking it off into a separate section. — alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 20:54, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
