In 1963 Laurel Lea sang Easier Said Than Done on Bandstand. I'm curious about whether it charted at all. Any info? Moondyne (talk) 13:58, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've put a request for her charting singles at the Australian Charts Portal (see here). Answers may take a week or so. Ian McFarlane has brief comments on Lea in his entries on other artists (Judy Cannon, Lonnie Lee, Little Pattie, Patsy Ann Noble, Johnny O'Keefe, Barry Stanton and Judy Stone), but no separate article. The comments don't add much detail to what is already in the article.
A Trove search provides the following form Women's Weekly:
20 December 1961, her father's name is Con Lianos. He was running a performance troupe at the time, with her younger brother (15-year-old) Doug Lianos aka Little Rock Billy as a drummer.
5 November 1975, married twice, her son is 13½, here, hence born 1962.
1 November 1961, she started touring with her father's tent show when she was 15, (here). Confirms father's name is Con Lianos, and brother is Doug aka Little Billy Rock.
All up more information, some of which contradicts her birth name – maybe this is her first married name? Anyway have fun.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:48, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More on marriage to Todd, on 29 June 1964, here, Mark is 18-months old, they have been married "for more than two years".shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:57, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks mate. It seems "Lea" was also frequently mispelt as "Lee". Here's hoping something pops up. Moondyne (talk) 03:02, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In comments here from someone supposedly her son, she was born Lorraine Chapman and her stepfather was Con Lianos. More comments here re recordings: "...she only had one 45rpm that reached the charts here in Oz and that was "Treasure Of Your Love" from 1965 on the CBS label, peaked at #16 on the Sydney 2UE Top 40. She released 9 other 45's between 1958 and 1973, every one of them on different labels. Coronet, HMV, Festival, Pye, Leedon, Hi Fi, Rex (As Margaret Hooper) etc..." Clues... According to Kimball, "Treasure of Your Love" was issued in 1964: catalogue no. BA-221104shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:49, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"...mostly singing cover versions of US hits. She started out with Lee Gordon on his Leedon label in 1958 with a backing group called The Crescents." Moondyne (talk) 05:02, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting find: Lorraine Merla Chapman born on 4 October 1942 in Sunshine, Victoria, daughter of Cecil Chapman and Merla (née James). See (here) Needs more connections to make it work.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:40, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work!. There's a 1966 TV Week on ebay [1] which I'll try to get if you promise not to bid against me. ;) Seller advises it has a 2 page article on Lea. Moondyne (talk) 08:03, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm moving on for now, I've assessed this as C-class. More information on her latter years including second marriage is needed. More on her discography and impact on other performers would help.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:22, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I missed out on the TV Week, so my sources have dried up. Moondyne (talk) 15:01, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
