Airport police[edit]

While the airport police use the term 'Police' they are not law enforcement officers and are privately employed security staff within the airport. They cannot make an arrest other than a citizens arrest similar to a shop security guard nor can they investigate crime, charge suspects or bring cases before the courts. Perhaps unknown but law enforcement in the airport is actually provided by An Garda Siochana via its Dublin airport Garda station (seen on the left after you exit a Ryanair flight). Valid point that law enforcement , in the civil sense , is the Gardaí at the airport but under the transport act of 1950'something the Airport police have rights to enforce the relevant laws from the act in Irish airports and the duties which stem from this act , so in effect even though its not common civil law enforcement it is still law enforcement , so that can be dealt with and mentioned in the article .Murry1975 (talk) 18:06, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Updated law enforcement section[edit]

Ireland feature one National Police Service the Gardai and several smaller police services who provide a policing function to specific transport infrastructure that require them.

I have re edited this page after the other police services had been removed to only show the Gardai.

This is now an accurate reflection of the police service that exist in the Republic.

Thanks for your edits. I've changed them to be summary style. The details of ROI policing should be placed in Law enforcement in the Republic of Ireland; the purpose of this article is more to serve as a summary, and eventually could contain more details about historical law enforcement across the island, or around collaboration between RoI/NI - but the details of RoI should be maintained in Law enforcement in the Republic of Ireland, as anyone coming from the template on law enforcement in Europe will go directly to the RoI page. --KarlB (talk) 14:22, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
