Name

This is a good example of a situation I described at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New York City Subway#Station complexes. This station is in Brooklyn Heights and has very little space on The Map for its name, thus the MTA shortens it to "Lawrence Street". On the most of the individual line pages (e.g., [1], [2]), the station is referred to as "Lawrence Street–MetroTech", as well as on the signage. This is part of the MTA's new emphasis on neighborhoods in station names, and an example of where the name on The Map is an unfortunate consequence of lack of space. New name of station to be "Jay Street - MetroTech"?

According to the Second Avenue Sagas blog, the combined station complex of Jay Street - Borough Hall and Lawrence Street - MetroTech stations will be renamed just "Jay Street - MetroTech". Rockies77 (talk) 20:25, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

I assume the MTA will release a new map when the free transfer passageway between the IND and BMT stations is opened. That should have the new name of the combined complex. Acps110 ^{(talk • contribs)} 21:27, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

I passed through this station late on Tuesday night December 7, 2010. There are no signs any more saying Lawrence Street. They only say "Jay Street - MetroTech" It still says Lawrence Street or Lawrence Street - Metrotech on maps in the subway system.

Today, Thursday December 9, 2010, a R train conductor going towards Manhattan at approximately 11 AM announced the station as Lawrence Street.

This has the potential to create great confusion. A person might believe that somehow they are on the F tracks or that the train has wandered there somehow, like some trains going downtown on the IND 6th Avenue line can suddenly wind up on the J line. (Essex Street not Delancey Street)

Or if headed towards "Jay Street" on the BMT will never find it except by looking outside at the signs on the platform.

There are many train stations where the stations on the different tracks have different names.
