Untitled[edit]

This is an absurd artivcle. It is full of unsupported value-judgements. It reads like a corporate brochure. For instance: "Trinity & All Saints is committed to creating a caring environment in which to cultivate education for a professional life. " "The attractive, residential campus is located in Horsforth," "offering the latest learning resources, including high specification personal computers" "Excellent sports facilities provide the ideal location for summer residential football camps and coaching courses" Surely this sort of blatant advertisement is not in accordance with the spirit of Wikipedia? Thamesfontein (talk) 18:41, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pages of schools, colleges etc are often filled with such crap. I think head masters have a secret penchant for promoting their school/college/university via Wikipedia. It wouldn't be so bad, but the twee sort of rhetoric banded around by these institutions really should come with a gip bag. Mtaylor848 (talk) 17:56, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chloe Madeley did not graduate and she did not even attain any grades while she attempted to study at the University. As such, in no way can she be classified as a graduate of the University. This article will be monitored for further illegitimate alterations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.163.100.81 (talk) 00:14, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Time to delete?[edit]

I agree this page is hardly more than pure advertising. Maybe it's time to get rid of these kinds of article?Ensykelow (talk) 13:40, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like to visit WP:WikiProject Universities? We are a group of editors working together to improve university-related articles and it does include trying to reduce what we call "academic boosterism" (advertising your own college). Itsmejudith (talk) 16:48, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mary Davis[edit]

I came to this page via Irish Presidential candidate Mary Davis's page where she is said to be a graduate. Perhaps she belomngs in the alumni section 86.43.110.186 (talk) 13:02, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not a prospectus[edit]

This is an encyclopedia and not a prospectus. It is not appropriate to add large amounts of unreferenced detailed information about contracts for residential acccommodation and similar content. I have reverted additions which include "Our" and "We", as they imply either (a) editing by an editor with a conflict of interest or (b) copying of material from the college's website or other publications. Neither of these is appropriate. PamD 13:44, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Updating this page[edit]

Hi, I'm the new Communications Officer for Leeds Trinity, and have been asked to update this page, which is very out of date. I have tried to put something together which just deals with facts about the university - e.g. facilities, links with industry, league table results - and have avoided overt promotion, but I have still been flagged up as spam. I do not wish to use the page as an advert, and have tried to emulate what other universities have done when updating the page, so would really appreciate some advice as to what I am doing wrong and how the page can be updated without being accused of spam?

Many thanks in advance. Ltaslogin (talk) 16:47, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and thanks for posting here. What is really new about the facilities? What has to be in there, not for potential students, but for a general readership? Are there any links with industry that have received attention in the mainstream press, because all UK universities do maintain links with industry and we only cover what is notable? League table results should be in a common format towards the bottom so that universities don't cherry-pick just the results that suit them. Have a look at the articles guidelines at WP:UNIGUIDE and come back here if there is anything you are absolutely sure should be in the article and isn't at the moment. University of Surrey is currently rated as a Good Article, although even that one could be improved, as it doesn't stick strictly to the article structure. I have to say that there are a lot of problems with UK uni articles, and my own experience is that having uni staff editing has been the cause of some of those problems. As the comms officer, you are presumably responsible for the news ssection of the website. Could I suggest that news items like this one, which is cited in the article, really ought to state their date! By navigating around to the index at http://www.leedstrinity.ac.uk/news_events/news/Pages/default.aspx I see it was 12 June 2012, but an undated "news" item is not very useful. PamD 18:23, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi both, thanks for getting back to me.

PamD - Thanks for your comment about undated news items. The date that the article was written appears next to the link on the main news homepage. The functionality of the website doesn't carry it through to the article itself, but I can take your point on board and feed it back to our Web Manager.

Itsmejudith - thanks for your advice. This is the first time I have edited wikipedia, so I will take your comments on board and work on reviewing the article so that it is more in line with the example you have mentioned. To take each of your points - I wanted to include all of our facilities as I think it is useful for the general public to know about these, rather than including a selection of old developments as the page included before. The links with industry I have mentioned are ones that have received press coverage and interest locally, which is why I have included them. Would it be useful if I located the coverage links and included these?

To clarify, as it stands can the article remain for now, or will you be removing it again? We have been through a process of change over the last few years, including several name changes, so I'm trying to make sure that all of the information we have listed on third party websites is clear and consistent. Ltaslogin (talk) 09:28, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On the issue of the news website - the fact that there's a date associated in an index on another page is irrelevant, really. Someone who googles on "leeds trinity" university title gets that page as second hit after wikipedia, and they then have no clue whether this is current or years old. You really need to point this out to your Web Manager: if the software isn't capable of including a date with the news item then it isn't fit for purpose! Like having a news clippings library with undated scraps of paper, but here it's made available worldwide and reflects badly on the organisation behind it. (And the dates on that index page are in all-numeric format which is a really bad idea on a website where many readers will read "06/11/12" as the 11th of June and many others will need to pause and look carefully at the context to work out which version of all-numeric dates is in use. Communications!) PamD 10:38, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Change of name[edit]

When the change of name becomes official, that will be the time to change all mentions of the name within the article and to move the article to Leeds Trinity University. Until then, to do so is premature. I have added a link to the more recent (undated - what a crazy system - I shouldn't need to backtrack to the index to find a date for a news item!) news item about the name change, but even this one does not claim that the change has already happened. Please stick to verifiable and accurate information, not crystal ball gazing. PamD 08:07, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The founders.[edit]

What the main article might be missing is that a Roman Catholic order of nuns, the Order of the Cross and Passion, I think it was, founded the two colleges, one for men and the other for women. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flashpark (talkcontribs) 13:14, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Photograph[edit]

The photograph of the university is very outdated. Might anyone have a photograph, or could take one of the new developments which have occurred which they could use in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hkong91 (talkcontribs) 21:59, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a photo dated 2009 to the article page, and removed the photo-request banner from this page. If you think that 2009 is not up-to-date enough, please restore the banner template to this page. Thank you. --Storye book (talk) 07:55, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
