Engel's life work and legacy[edit]

Even for a stub, this article is entirely misconceived. Engel was primarily a conductor, not a composer, and there is no mention of the work for which he is now remembered, the BMI workshop for composers and lyricists writing musicals. As many prominent teams and shows got their start in the BMI workshop, this should be the focus of the article. As conductor, Engel was known on Broadway as music director of almost all of Harold Rome's major shows (e.g.,Call Me Mister, Fanny, Destry Rides Again), as well as such others as do Re Mi and Goldilocks. He was Goddard Lieberson's choice to conduct Columbia Records' celebrated 1950s series of Broadway classics (including the first more or less complete recording of Porgy and Bess). Engel also wrote a number of books on the musical. Fred Lane 02:24, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As a stopgap, I added a reference to the BMI Workshop linking to the article on the Workshop. Burnley 00:45, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
