Removal of Goodwin's statement[edit]

I removed the absolutely ridiculous statement of Noël Goodwin from Grove's - "Ivanov worked so much in the shadow of Pepita, mostly revising older ballets, that the transitory nature of unrecorded choreography has denied him much posthumous fame ... the known share of his contribution to Swan Lake, still preserved in the familiar Act 2, shows him to have been a much more musical choreographer than Pepita." How Goodwin could judge the entire œuvre of Ivanov based on this one scene (which has certainly not survived as it was originally staged by him in 1895) is beyond me. Contemprorary accounts show that the man was not the downtrodden genius he has been made out to be. Furthermore, he did not revive older ballets all that much, though he did in fact stage many of Petipa's ballets for several theatres throughout the Russian Empire. The whole idea of "Ivanov, downtrodden by Petipa" is simply not true - nearly every work Ivanov staged was not well-received, and Petipa was often given no choice but to "fix" many of them. --Mrlopez2681 (talk) 22:08, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2nd para: "...choreographing at least the majority of the ballet as Pepita had reportedly not progressed..." s.b. Petipa.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.39.218.10 (talk) 12:00, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
