Writing for VT and further evidence for gender transition[edit]

As written on Lily's Linkedin page (https://i.imgur.com/GZPqGBM.jpg), Lily has previously written for VT.co. While the URL (https://vt.co/author/joe-hanson) for her profile still includes the name Joe Hason, the display name and biography have been updated to Lily Hanson and include female pronouns, giving more reason to believe the change of names from Joe Hanson to Lily Hanson, and the transition of genders, to be true. Maybe, but this is a bio for an online magazine with click-baity titles. Apparently it is British and aimed at younger people yet I've never heard of it. I doubt very much it will meet Wikipedia's standards on reliable sourcing (see WP:RS). UaMaol (talk) 02:20, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Now that Lily has released a new video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGgVoqr78gk), it's definitely time for this page to be updated with her correct name and pronouns. Internetronic (talk) 22:03, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Transgender?[edit]

Edits have been made to this article to suggest that Joe Hanson has become transgender, the proof of which being a link to a Lily Hanson's author profile on the site fournine.net (http://fournine.net/author/joe-hanson), with the url still maintaining the Joe Hanson name. Nowhere on the page does it state explicitly that Joe Hanson became Lily Hanson, nor could I find any evidence anywhere else as proof of that fact. The fact that both are from Minnesota and live in Los Angeles is circumstantial. If Lily Hanson and Joe Hanson are the same person, might this be a nom de plume for the comedian? I think more substantial evidence should be provided before a switch from "he" to "she" should be executed in the article. ברסלבער (talk) 19:05, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Curious as well, anyone with more inside information would be great. The URL to the comedian's article page on FourNine being "joe-hanson" is particularly peculiar, suggesting perhaps that Hanson was writing at the site (a women's publication) while still presenting as a man. @ברסלבער: @Voyaging: I agree. I discovered this person a few moments ago on YouTube and was rather confused in searching for their Wikipedia article. There is no indication whatsoever on this page that the actual subject is now known as Lily, is trans nor had a gender reassignment. I can't find any reliable sources, in fact I can't find any news sources about the matter at all. The user who made the move whilst being a user here for 7 years, has less than 300 edits so assuming good faith I can only imagine they are unaware of WP:RS. A little while after the page move, this article popped up on r/JoeGoes (here) along with a screen shots of profiles allegedly of the person in question. None of these meet WP:RS however. Unless a user can find a reliable source which shows such to be true, I suggest we move the page back to the previous name and restore personal pronouns reflecting their sex. EDIT_1: There exists an IMDB Biography for "Lily Hanson" (here), however it says it is published by a person of the same name who is said to be the person in question. As per WP:RSP IMDB is considered "generally unreliable" and therefore should e avoided. The fact that it is self-published also raises questions too as to whether or not it is the person in question and if this account would even be considered reliable in itself considering the complete lack of secondary reporting. Change reference to past name to follow the convention of other transgender people on Wikipedia[edit]

Currently, this page refers to the person's past name by stating ″formerly known as Joe Hanson″ while other Wikipedia articles refer to transgender people of note as ″born <name>″. [1] [2]

Other articles for transgender people of note do not cite their deadname, but I believe this is largely because those people do not have credits as their past name. [3] [4]

Based on this, and that I don't know any Wikipedia policy on this, Lilly Hanson's introduction should read: ″Lily Blaire Hanson (born Joe Hanson; February 23, 1983)″
