Advertising[edit]

The section "Environmentally Conscious" looks like it was literally lifted out of an advertisement. I think it should be removed posthaste, as it has no encyclopedic value whatsoever. The EnergyStar compliance is somewhat useful, but that should rather be incorporated somewhere else in the article. Also it was posted by Ken256 with the title "The Green Initiative". Dates[edit]

Page seems like it is bias[edit]

Ok, this page seems like it is bias. It does not cite one Linksys fault, such as there terrible customer support, or the fact that they like to frequently refuse to honor there Warranty on their products. 12.152.160.138 18:56, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page focus should be changed[edit]

This page is far too focused on a single product made by Linksys and its community modifications. If the title of the article were "WRT54G" then this page would fit perfectly, however this is a page about Linksys as a company and their portfolio of products, their history and their future direction, and as such should reflect at least partial history, perhaps their first successful model, details on their acquisition by Cisco, and such. I will try to add to it shortly.

Verbosity[edit]

If someone is interested in putting this information together, I'd suggest not putting it on the page. Reserve the article for notable things about the company itself. A separate page with a list of products is better (especially if there are a lot of items.) See Wikipedia:Lists_(stand-alone_lists), Wikipedia:Embedded_list, and Wikipedia:Lists for more info. Adding Reviews External Link[edit]

I have a resource I would like to add to the Linksys article. The resource offers both customers and product users alike the ability to view and add reviews of a specific company. The website does not include and advertising and is setup the same way wiki is, allowing for current users to adapt to the future system very easily. DontUse.org is a Link normally to be avoided. Links to open wikis, except those with a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors and it Does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article alread contains. WRT54G[edit]

perhaps this article should be changed to reflect the fact that cisco is discontinuing the linksys brand.

Note About Criticism[edit]

The entire Criticism section was recently removed by User:Dman727, citing the Wikipedia:SYN and Wikipedia:OR pages, more or less saying that the criticism was merely a few facts coupled with an editorial conclusion. I feel this is incorrect. Perhaps the tone was inappropriate for an encyclopedia after dozens of edits and re-edits to appease one reader or another, but there was good content. In that vein, the non-encyclopedic content may be more appropriate here.

There is nothing wrong with criticism from a reliable source. Those should be added to articles like this. However the passage that you are referring to was simply a criticism originated by the wikipedia editor and the source was simply data supporting his assertion. That is he very definition of WP:OR. To properly include any content on wikipedia, you need to reference sources that make the conclusion independently. In this case the passage would be a summary of the criticism on Linksys, and the source would be a reliable source that states the criticism. For rules on what compromise a reliable source, see WP:RS. Blogs and forum postings rarely meet that definition. Dman727 (talk) 17:51, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism[edit]

While many Linksys home products work with any modern browser, many of their current business models, specifically routers and managed switches, only work with ActiveX enabled browsers (such as IE6). On these products, advertisements and documentation make no mention of the operating system or browser requirements. An example of this are the SRW business series switches, where the official documentation simply states, "Internet Explorer version 5.5 or above is recommended.", on page 42.

Notable devices: 

   * The SRWXXXX line of managed Gigabit switches, for example SRW2008 and SRW2024

Linksys however does provide legacy interfaces to configure the devices, but only minimum functionality are accessible directly through the menu driven interface. Users may exit the menu and enter a Cisco IOS kind of CLI mode, exposing all configuration options by Serial console, Telnet and SSH.

Table of routers and adapters with OS compatibility[edit]

I was just wondering if it were good practice to put up such a table. For example, the WUSB600N Wireless Adapter does NOT work with Linux, but works with Windows XP, Vista and Vista x64.

LINKSYS BANNER[edit]

There are many graphics editor applications available, including several that cost nothing.
I wouldn't recommend manually editing the words, shapes or colors of company logos to publish on Wikipedia. A low-resolution copy of the current logo, sourced from Linksys or its public presence and satisfying the WP:NFCC criteria is usually the way to go.

No support: deleted all downloadable update files![edit]

There must be citeable references for the fact that Linksys (which one?) has disappeared all downloadable updates for many old products, e.g. WRT54G. They produced the updates, they had the files on their site, but have deleted all of them because... they were naughty with open source licensing? Nice to link your brand (now Belkin) with landfill.
