Abel Smith[edit]

Can anyone explain a possible discrepency. According to the constituency record, Abel Smith was not a Member of the House in 1858, and yet he appears in the painting. Is this the wrong Abel or the wrong year? Motmit (talk) 22:37, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

John Abel Smith and Chichester (UK Parliament constituency) say he was an MP up to 1859--Rumping (talk) 14:17, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is another "Sir Anthony de Rothschild, 1st Baronet"[edit]

Check this name in Wikepedia, it's the same person — Preceding unsigned comment added by Goettinge (talkcontribs) 13:25, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, what is a barren and in this case was he a Baron. When the Austro-Hungarian title was granted it was finally given Lionel, when it was upgraded on 29 September 1822. Howveer, he never used it. His sons who had English nationality did use it. However, as English nationals they shouldn't have done without special permission from the sovereign. Some of them obtained this, but others did not. 195.66.148.176 (talk) 18:31, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Obliged to convert?[edit]

"There had been Members of Parliament of Jewish origin since Sampson Gideon in 1770, but all had been obliged to convert to Christianity."

Diraeli for one was not "obliged to convert." He was baptised as a child and was a practising and believing Anglican all his life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.10.222.103 (talk) 07:13, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
