Accuracy of data[edit]

I will preface this comment by saying we are still looking for any sources which directly back the information shown in this article and all other articles in this series, and that any information which is not properly sourced via the verifiability WP:V and no original research WP:NOR guidelines may be removed here or in any of the other articles. I have read some of a recent AfD on this series, indicating it is difficult to adequately source stuff such as debut week in the top 10, or weeks in the top 10, for example. Difficult, but not impossible. However, like with sourcing other information, one must be careful in analyzing the Billboard Hot 100 charts to record these statistics, with how it's analyzed possibly being a huge problem.

Having said that, I will not touch this statistical data except to update for accuracy, upon verifying the data against the Hot 100 charts available online or in print. My goal here is to ensure accuracy in these articles until such time that the data must be removed for violating the above guidelines. I will also record the version of each article which is correct (in this space for simplification).

I am taking on this responsibility in light of various editors (mainly IP users) changing statistics in the articles without any edit summary to explain the change, which needs to be reverted upon sight. In most cases, the change ends up being wrong, but whether the original is right can only be checked by an editor who carefully analyzes the Hot 100 charts (and again the way it's analyzed is a danger here). I will do what I can to ensure the accuracy, but without direct references, it will take time to verify, and that time also increases the chances for errors to materialize while verifying.

So far, I've verified the data in this article ([1] is the accurate version) and the one for 2001 ([2]). I've also placed a hidden comment/disclaimer in each—a later version than what I show linked here—to indicate they've been checked for accuracy (and that there lacks direct sources to back the information). Both articles have since been updated with legitimate changes, but also with at least one editor tinkering with the statistical data without explanation, which I reverted.
