2012 comment[edit]

I removed two lines of unrelated information that had been added to the list of rapids. Beirdo (talk) 13:26, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the following entry on the list:

  • Mile 113.1 - Rancid Tuna Rapid (6)

This entry is not vandalism, since it was added along with most of the names on the list, but it does not appear to be an official placename or river feature along the Colorado River. This may be a name circulated by river guides ("this is the rapid where I had that rancid tuna on a motor rig in 1988") but does not appear in any official publication. There is a Tuna Creek in Grand Canyon, but the creek and the Tuna Creek Rapids are much further upstream (and already listed in this article). I'm willing to cede that there are stranger placenames out there that are official, so if someone can come up with a reliable source, by all means add it back and cite the source. I find a few references to "Rancid Tuna" Rapid online (e.g. http://www.arizonahandbook.com/river3.htm and http://maltedmedia.com/books/mah/downriv.htm) but it's unclear to me what rapid it refers to. There's no rapid listed in either of my guides between Waltenberg and Elves Chasm--much less a 6. 04:27, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

added more photos and updated mileage/Rapids[edit]

This is a major edit. The mileages needed updating due to the 2006 USGS Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center re-survey of the river. The Martin-Whitis Guide is on Edition V, and all text mentioning rapids as not in the Guide has been removed as the rapids are all listed in the Guide. Two class (5) rapids were not on the list and they have been added. The reference to Brad Dimock's work was replaced by the recent release of Marston's original work from the 1950's. adding photos bot kicked out[edit]

Please excuse my steep learning curve. Trying to replace bot removed photos with better copyright info.RRFWTommartin (talk) 02:26, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
