How can you list someone as an alumni when they only took some coursework? Also it isn't clear who did not complete their degree. I'm removing those people who just took coursework or maybe not even have attended for example Selma Blair who graduated from University of Michigan not NYU. Angry bee (talk) 18:35, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

It depends on how alumni is being defined in this article. The information in the Intro and Notes section of the article seem to suggest that someone taking coursework could possibly warrant inclusion. --81.100.44.233 (talk) 08:03, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Fictional alumni

The fictional alumni are already included in the main NYU article at New York University#In film and literature. Based on the consensus at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities#Fictional alumni, the fictional alumni would be better shown in an "In film and literature" or "Cultural references" section than included with actual notable people. I will be removing the duplicate information from this article soon. 72Dino (talk) 04:35, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Sally Kohn is a graduate of NYU Law School and the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. Cannolis (talk) 20:16, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Balk

Balk was deleted? (See sports). Looks like an opportunity for someone to create a new proper article, and make it into a DYK. See here. --Epeefleche (talk) 01:56, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

Inclusion of non-notable deans and department heads

@Alcoaariel: Wikipedia has specific guidelines for academics: Wikipedia:Notability (academics). Per that guideline, being a department head, dean, or similar does not automatically confer notability. Being a president or similar of a major institution is enough to assume notability, as is being a distinguished professor or holding a named chair for a major institution, but being a department head, for example, is very far from being automatically notable. For that reason I am again removing many of the names on this list. They should only be restored if they can, with secondary sources, be established as notable. This means the entry has to explain why person is notable beyond their academic title. Please discuss here before restoring. Grayfell (talk) 03:21, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

I totally agree. You are right.--Alcoaariel (talk) 03:52, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

Billionaire status

I've removed mentions of notable alums being 'billionaires', because it's a mutable fact that's often hard to verify, and also because it's kind of promotional and pretentious. Since it actually says nothing about a persons accomplishments, it's not terribly informative. While some universities may want to promote the number of billionaires they have 'produced', I feel that falls under WP:NOTADVERTISING, and should not be a factor in what to include. Grayfell (talk) 23:18, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

  • I agree, there's no need to mention net worth here. It's not a list of people by net worth.--Alcoaariel (talk) 20:24, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Is Robert C. O'Handley notable?

His page has been removed.Xx236 (talk) 11:04, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Good question. Robert C. O'Handley was deleted twice, but it appears to be the same person as Robert O'Handley. That article is tagged for questionable notability. If anyone wants to find sources to establish WP:PROF, that would be helpful. Otherwise it should be prodded or AFDed. Grayfell (talk) 05:55, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
According to Google Scholar, his most-cited was cited 2392 times,[1] certainly meets WP:PROF.--Alcoaariel (talk) 20:30, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
That works for me, but notability still needs sources, so that should probably be better established at Robert O'Handley. I've added a mention of that particular book to his article, but more is needed. Grayfell (talk) 21:28, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
