It is appropriate to include these engines, or should another wiki article be created? Zluster 00:25, 29 June 2007 (UTC)*[reply]

It makes total sense to me to add these engines to the list. Maybe in new sections, but they belong on the main page. BenFenner (talk) 17:05, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

VR engines updated[edit]

I have written in the information for the vr engine from nissan.com and netcarshow.com and caranddriver.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.113.110.55 (talk) 16:28, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nissan latio[edit]

Haloo every one...i have issue here right now i used Nissan latio/tidda/versa and i plan to tuned my engine.what type of engine can fixed with my car?...(benzyma_7253@yahoo.com) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.13.41.2 (talk) 06:42, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reply - my apologies but you should ask this query at a Nissan/Datsun fan site, not at Wikipedia. Best of luck. (The "Nissan latio" section should be removed as it has no bearing on the article.) Jopower (talk) 12:32, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Technical (re subject) and editing (cannot see how to) problems with the 'List of Nissan engines' page.[edit]

On review of the 'List of Nissan engines' Wiki page, I see in the table at the top (evidently an non-editable section), under "Letter", that the letter "R" engine has listed as "Feature" "supercharged."

 >>> excerpted paste from table: [R Supercharged Power adder]

The Nissan "R" engine is used exclusively (when a stand-alone letter designator) on the "R-16" engine. This is correctly stated under the "Straight-4" engine list below (which IS an editable section). I could not find a way to edit/amend the top section and subject table. When seeking to edit/amend the "Straight-4" section, I found the foundational language seems absent.

 >>> excerpted section from "Straight-4" section:

I am only fairly familiar with 'Basic' and 'HTML' languages and hence disinclined to attempt any corrective edits at this point, which is why I turn to the "Talk" (apparently nee "Discussion") section.

It appears on one hand that the top table attempts to define each element of letter designation individually (belied by the three entries; Ti, TT, and HR), and on the other can only leave that the "R" is entirely incorrect. It probably DOES indicate "supercharged" when the letter "R" is joined with another ("SR", "HR", "MR", ?? I know nothing about those, I'm assuming).

Now that I've tried to be precise and thorough, I hope it's clear my intent. The "R" as explained in the (non-editable?) table in the top section of the page is incorrect when using the "R" designation as a standalone letter. As said above, the only "R-" engine is the R-16.

I would be glad to discuss or communicate further as and if needed on this subject, and in regard to the Datsun (Nissan) RL411 1600 and SSS models, and the Datsun (Nissan) PL411 in particular (my personal area of expertise), or anything that counts as an "Early" Datsun, defined by being a "pre-1968 Datsun/Nissan auto or truck, to include later models to 1973 that are direct descendants of these cars and trucks.

Finally, I apologize for leaving this issue to you rather than simply add my proverbial '2-cents', but I'd rather turn to you than muck up an intentionally constructive contribution to clarity and accuracy.

And all I believe I'm attempting is to point out the, to me at least, very evident contradiction held in the subject Wiki page. This is why I offer my contact info, in case further documentation is required or desired. Again, thank you for your time and attention. I performed the extensive re-write of the naming section at the top a few years ago. The "R" feature designation does describe a supercharged engine. You are confusing the feature designation letters with the engine family letters. Engine family letters come first, then the displacement, then the feature letters. The SR20DE engine is of course not supercharged, because it does not have an "R" in the feature section of the name. It does have an "R" in the engine family section of the name, but the engine family name has nothing to do with the features that the engine has. Does that explain it? For an example of a supercharged engine that Nissan produced, look at the HR12DDR engine. Yes, it has an "R" in the family name, but ignore that as it is meaningless. The letters after the displacement (1.2 liters) describe an engine with Dual Overhead Cams, Direct Gasoline Injection, and a supercharger. Maybe for a better example, look at the VG33ER engine. It is the supercharged version of the VG engine family. BenFenner (talk) 17:11, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This article totally misses the basic fundamentals of the system[edit]

Of the 5 engines mentioned on the page, the VG, the VQ, the MR and L series, G, Q, M, R and L are not even on the list provided. According to this article, an SR20 engine is called the SR because it is Supercharged and Carbureted. Ridiculous. It is obvious that the letters provided on this list only apply to the suffix letters after the engine displacement. "DETT" means Direct Injected, MPFI, and Twin Turbo. The SR has nothing to do with caruretors or superchargers, obviously. "VQ" doesn't even appear on the list. Yet this article makes no mention of these initial code groups at all, and at a casual glance it appears to be claiming that ALL the letters in the name are to be deciphered from this list. It would appear that SR, VQ, VG, etc, are just arbitrary designator codes for each family of engines, and as such are the most important part of the code, followed by modifiers giving details as to the subvariant. O cannot figure out the code; I would say V meant a Vee engine and R meant an inline, but for some reason the put the V first in VQ and VG, but put the R second in SR and MR series. L probably belongs to an older system. Whatever the meaning of each letter, the ACTUAL system appears to be

"Engine family code letters/displacement in deciliters/Series of letters describing special attributes of particular engine, as noted on this list"

But not knowing enough to be sure I don't really feel qualified to fix this. Where are all the Nissan enthusiasts? I'm surprised this has been left so incomplete for so long (I can only say that its a good thing that it's so clearly wrong and most of the letters jst plai don't match, or a lot of people would have been seriously misled by this article).
