Gerrard

I've noticed Gerrard's page accurately states he has scored 38 "continental" goals, but he is not listed, so were TEN of these goals in the UEFA cup? I'm not convinced, I think Gerrard has at least 28 in the Champions League. Cannot find any stats, however.--Tomsega (talk) 12:19, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

In both cases, other nationality is involved.

Both in fact played for Argentina and Brazil National Teams before get their Spanish/Italian nationality.

Claudio Pizarro

Not mentioned 44 goals of Claudio Pizarro. His scored 29 goals in 35 matches for Werder Bremen, 15 goals in 51 matches for Bayern München and 2 matches (no goals) for Chelsea. A note about Matchday Updating

As per the request for semi-protection, I have been asked to write the instructions(?) here about editing on Champions League matchdays.

• Do not edit until the end of Matchdays. Mistakes are continually made. Double edits are continually made. Some players are continually not updated. Ratios are continually not updated. Update EVERYTHING. But only at the end of a matchday, which is always a Wednesday.
• Edit the update date at the end of each matchday so other users know the required edits have already been made.
• Goals scored in the qualification rounds do not count towards this list. If a player has scored goals in qualification, write a note similar to those already in place so confusion is avoided as much as can possibly be. RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 16:53, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Not done This list does not include qualifying rounds and Ronaldo scored one goal for Manchester United in the qualifying for 2005-06 CL. This means he has 70 (main tournament) + 1 (qualifying) = 71. Robben & Cavani

As of October 19, 2016, Aryen Robben scored 27th goal, surpassed Mario Gomes and shares 28th place with Rivaldo. José Águas only got top scorer in the 1960-61 campaign (see: individual honours in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_%C3%81guas). Thus Portugal's number becomes 10 instead of 11 and Jose Águas removed from the list by player of being top scorer (more than once).

Also In the List "By country", Alfredo di Stefano should be counted Spanish (as he switched his nationality to Spanish. You can see this when you do Control + F "Di Stéfano acquired Spanish citizenship in 1956" in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfredo_Di_St%C3%A9fano ) and two of Hungary's years 1961–62, 1963–64 should be moved to Spain, as Ferenc Puskas switched his nationality to Spanish as well in 1962, see: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2006/nov/17/newsstory.sport6 ). It is a list of the top scorers, and that is what it should be. We can not list all scorers and we can not just choose those that we think should be there as it is WP:POV. We display neutral fact, and not opinions. Qed237 (talk) 11:19, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

I totally agree with you. He don't get to decide which players are 'important'. And those players he added, are still active and going strong. They will eventually make their way on the list anyways. Reducing the all-time ranking

The all-time list currently cuts off at 20 goals. More than half of the 50 players listed have scored between 20 and 29 goals. I oppose. The article is supposed to be list of top scorers, and cutting to 30 goals will only leave 20 players. Also from what I understand, the cut-off is not 20 goals, we always display top 50 players. Qed237 (talk) 10:45, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Replace 30 goals with 30 players then, same difference. For example La Liga cuts off at 20 players, the Prem at 25 (100 goals), and Serie A at 30. Why 50? There really is little encyclopedic relevance when over half of them have scored 20–29 goals and the other half 30–90. All-time top scorers - active players

Why does bold in this list denote still active in the current seasons champions league when its an all time top scorers list? This doesn't make much sense to me. Why would that make sens if the player doesn't have the chance to increase the amount of goals? Trezeget for example is still active, i.e. he is still playing professional football in some part of the world but it's very unlikely that he'll ever return to play the Champions League again. It looks like someone agreed with me as it no longer says active in "this season" it just says currently playing in Europe now. Active in the current 2014-15 Champ League made no sense and went against other all time lists. It makes sense now.
