Inclusion criteria[edit]

As far as I understand, wikipedia articles on World Heritage Sites should use UNESCO's regions. So for the purpose of this article it should include Asia and the Pacific minus Asia and not include Chile, US,...? bamse (talk) 13:02, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bamse, thanks for contacting me on my talk page. In response to your question, I don't mind how the columns are ordered and can see your reasoning behind having the site appear first.
As for the above, I originally split this list from the Asian one because it appeared that we were not, in fact, adopting UNESCO's regional divisions (as I could see by the organisation of lists into Europe, America instead of Europe and North America, Latin America and the Caribbean). Not following UNESCO's way made sense to me, since think it's mostly based on politics.
If we follow basic geography, Hawaii and Rapanui are in Oceania. Perhaps it's best to follow the way we do it with Georgia and similar cases. Nightw 17:09, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Thanks for your reply. As for UNESCO regions versus geographical division, this discussion did not seem to give consensus and as far as I can see, the present world heritage lists use one or the other, which is quite messy. I'd be happy if we could decide for a consistent division into non-overlapping lists. I don't think that "Europe and North America" is a problem, since because of length, we'd probably need to split those in two or more lists anyway. (BTW, a similar discussion is going on here) bamse (talk) 21:51, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps we should have a centralised discussion to get a clear consensus on this. I definitely agree with "geographical, not political", but I'm not adverse to doing it UNESCO-style either. I just think that most readers (at least those not familiar with UNESCO regional groupings) would expect to find Morocco in the Africa list, for example. But I'd definitely rather not see content duplicated, which could be a problem with using geographical definitions. I think it'd be best to sort this out before we start nominating lists at FLC...? Nightw 13:04, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fully agree. My personal favorite at the moment would be a geographical definition and possibly a short discussion in the article on how it differs for this particular list from UNESCO's region. bamse (talk) 16:25, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds perfect. Can we jump start the discussion on WP:WHS? Nightw 17:51, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to start a new discussion. However, since the last discussion is less than a year ago, I am not sure there will be fundamentally new thoughts on the topic. That's why I'd favour some kind of voting (but not sure how to start that). bamse (talk) 18:25, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, posting there now. Nightw 19:55, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Papahānaumokuākea[edit]

Should Papahānaumokuākea be included here? bamse (talk) 21:23, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I guess so. Nightw 23:55, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Moving to "List of World Heritage in East Asia and Oceania"[edit]

Per the small consensus at WT:WHS, I propose moving the list to List of World Heritage in East Asia and Oceania. Any objections? EricLeb01 (Page | Talk) 16:49, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Responded on the WP page. Nightw 11:24, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tentative list[edit]

Map error[edit]

On firefox 23.0.1 on mac, the map point at Heard Island has an alt text correctly of Heard & MacDonald Island, but the link is to Henderson Island (Pitcairn Islands). I have checked the code for the map and can't find a problem.

Can anyone fix?

Also, please check if this is occuring on other platforms.

Not an issue anymore, however, some locations are missing from the map? Palau for example? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.25.183.51 (talk) 06:21, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Change hectares to square kilometers in table?[edit]

One way to create more space for the description in the table, might be to change the unit of area to square kilometers from hectares. Maybe drop acres or change it to square miles. Aaabbb11 (talk) 06:21, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
