Untitled[edit]

My question in regard to this page is whether it is going to be allowed for the band listings to run rampant? Clearly there is no real definition to what alt country is, so anyone can put anything on here. Therefore, we have groups like Big & Rich, who are clearly doing something very mainstream, even if it is a little different than some of the pop country.

My other concern is simply the fact that close to half of these links don't go to anything. These either need to be fixed, unlinked, or deleted. I don't really want to start deleting, as this list is a means of keeping people from incessantly trying to add their own band into the alt country article as the next big thing, so I would recommend these need to be either fixed, if the band has a page, or unlinked. Influencers[edit]

There is a huge difference between being an artist of a genre and being influenced by that genre. For example, on this list is Credence Clearwater Revival who, while being influenced by Buck Owens are not alt.contry in and of themselves. I'll leave the argument about the Bakersfield Sound and its relationship to alt.country to others. RhodyJim 15:46, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Original Research[edit]

This list is a mess right now. There are some bands on here that could be considered extremely controversial as alt-country bands, e.g. Spoon, White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and Kings of Leon, just to name a few. I'm just surprised Kid Rock and Lionel Richie aren't on here for remaking a couple of country and western songs. how about narrowing the list from everyone on earth that has ever made a song that was influenced by country music to groups that almost exclusively play alternative country, like the drivebytruckers and old 97's maybe. reverend horton heat? cracker? willie nelson? bob dylan? — Preceding

Cowpunk?[edit]

Cowpunk bands seem left out. The page on Cowpunk calls it a form of punk rock fused with country and alternative/outlaw country derivatives of it. I'd consider adding band such as the Beat Farmers to the list.
