Restore original table format?[edit]

In earlier versions, e.g. in February 2012, this article was in the form of a wikitable. I find the current version extremely difficult to navigate and would suggest that we return it to a wikitable, albeit better formatted than the original version, probably based around other lists of earthquakes by country articles, such as list of earthquakes in Greece - thoughts?. Proposal to change back to table format[edit]

Three years ago I suggested that this article should be changed back to a table format, similar to most other list by country articles. There was no response. Looking at the article again it's just getting more difficult to navigate and contains many non-notable events. I propose to change it back when I get the time (and energy) unless somebody responds with a reason why the current format is preferable. I would also take the opportunity to remove non-notable events - i.e. ones that clearly do not meet the WP Earthquakes notability guidelines. Mikenorton (talk) 10:47, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The current format is horrible and not useable. A table format is much preferred. Also, do not use multiple tables (unless too many entries). A single table is preferred. Thanks. 9/18/2021

I have a draft that contains 3 tables for the main list: pre-1900, 20th century and 21st century. The last two could be combined but I think that the pre-instrumental events probably work better as their own table. I've considerably reduced the number of events as there were many of very dubious notability. I've gone fairly light on descriptions compared to th current article but more detail can be added back if we feel the need. Once I've updated the article I will look at which images would be helpful - there are too many right now, so I'm starting with none. Please discuss here before reverting my changes - I have made the proposal twice in the past to return to a fully table format for the list and there have been no objections. The new version should appear over the next few days - I will need to add citations but currently I can't see the wood for the trees. I'm intending to keep the other two lists for now - Largest earthquakes by year and Deadliest earthquakes, although the former is not really doing anything in my view. I decided to drop the largest by year list - why just 21st century? What extra information is it conveying? I'm also uncertain about the location maps, which seem a bit OR-ish in their captions - unclear why particular events were included. Mikenorton (talk) 16:11, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2020 December earthquake[edit]

There was an earthquake today. Can somebody put it in the article?180.150.115.177 (talk) 06:19, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Return to table format[edit]

There have been no objections to my proposal to return this article fully to a table format - see section above. I will be making the change later today. Mikenorton (talk) 15:58, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed a lot of non-notable events, but they're all preserved in the earlier versions if other editors want to argue for their inclusion. Mikenorton (talk) 16:09, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
