Two 19th Century Hotels in G Street[edit]

This photo and two others in the story are not completely accurate. I am a descendent of the owners of the Avenue Hotel at 1415 G "Avenue" in Douglas, the property identified as "two 19 Century hotels". Additionally, the individual photos of the Avenue and Samson hotels detailed below in the article are also not correct.

The Avenue Hotel is the sole and single hotel identified in the "two .. hotels" photo. Correcting some detail in the descriptions as well, the north side of this hotel is the older adobe three story hotel originally built on the site - in later years a larger two story brick addition was added. That addition housed the family, about 20 rooms on two floors and a large lobby.

The Samson Hotel was located - next door - to the south on the corner of 14th St and G Avenue. It was a stand alone building and was not part of The Avenue. The hotel was on the second floor above a store run by Mrs Martinez. Outside was a trailer that served hamburgers, "Whimpy's". The photo identified as the Samson is the old adobe section of The Avenue and housed the café, kitchen and a split level 2nd/3rd floor with rooms for rent. The photo with the large wood doors, balcony (adjoining rooms 1 and 2) is the brick addition.

There is a photo taken from across the street in 1933 that clearly shows both sections of The Avenue, a small empty lot and then The Samson Hotel on the corner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.124.73.33 (talk) 20:35, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
