Remove ordinal numbers[edit]

Definition of indoor arena[edit]

The definition outlined on this page seems arbitrary, and rules out a number of large arenas that would otherwise hold the top positions in this list. Tokyo Dome and the Carrier Dome mentioned in the article should surely make this list.TheZoolooMaster (talk) 08:26, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I see now that there is a separate (and rather long) list for domed and retractable roof stadiums. While these are functionally 'indoor arenas' in my opinion, I can see the value of maintaining separate lists. I already included the definiton and link to The Merriam-Webster Dictionary which defines an arena as "a building for sports and other forms of entertainment that has a large central area surrounded by seats." (Please see arena definition) But several anonymous users just keeps reverting to a list that insists that the Philippine Arena is the largest indoor arena by capacity and this is far from reality. An indoor arena is very different than a domed stadium. Indoor arenas generally host sports that require a much smaller playing field than a stadium would. Indoor arenas usually host basketball, ice hockey, team handball, tennis, etc, while a stadium hosts football, rugby, cricket, etc. Because there is a big difference between the sizes of the venues, it makes to have separate lists.
Specifically for the Philippine Arena, on the one hand it seems to be much bigger than the other arenas. It actually is bigger than the Superdome is terms of square footage (390,000 vs 290,000). However, there are a lot of sources out there that refer to it as the world's biggest indoor arena, not as a stadium. While it may be used mostly for religious services, it did host the PBA opening ceremony and had 52,000 people for that event. I'm not sure it is an indoor arena, but there are enough sources out there that claim it is, and we really can't make the decision ourselves on what is or isn't an arena. Maybe we can designate the Philippine Arena, and a few others, differently. But I'm not sure how we will ever arrive at a clear rule. Patken4 (talk) 22:27, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sports vs. concert capacities[edit]

At the moment plenty of the capacities given are for concerts and not sports, thus many arenas that allow only around 10 000 or even fewer spectators for sports events are included among the genuinely big ones here. I thought it said no retractable roof stadiums[edit]
