List of military aid: Clean and simple, or cluttered and listing the items thoroughly in detail?

Upon starting this article, I considered to list primarily the dates, the monetary amount (or weight) and the type of military aid, whether entirely non-lethal military equipment, or if any aid for lethal military equipment. I have adjusted a few of the additions by others to continue minimalist details for each listing by briefly summarizing it, rather than listing too many details. As I am seeing more details being added by others, given that each country will possibly have many or even dozens of listings per country, each with many details per entry, such that there may eventually be thousands of listings, each with details (brief or extensive), what do other thinks in terms of whether or not to summarize as briefly as possible, or otherwise list out all the details of each individual listing of aid for each date for each country? Also, I was hoping to find articles for non-lethal military equipment and lethal military equipment that includes practically all the different possible types of aid that may be included in the packages, so that instead of listing out these items in this article, that the items could be included in another article that shows all the different possibilities of military equipment that are identifiable distinguished as non-lethal or lethal. Jasonkhanlar (talk) 15:02, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

I think we run the risk of it becoming too cluttered. I believe something like - 'X quantity of Y on date', or 'Support in the form of ACTIVITY on DATE'.
I agree, however there is a very clear distinction between military aid, humanitarian aid, and financial aid. Keeping the list separate like that allows to create maps of countries that only support with humanitarian aid as well - which is quite exceptionally also including many of Russia's allies such as Kazakhstan [1] and Azerbadjan [2] (sources only for reference, and may not be the best). Distrait cognizance (talk) 09:44, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
I think a chart displaying just the quantities of different types of military aid (Number of armored vehicles, anti-air systems, etc) Not broken down by country would be useful Wolf359Locutus (talk) 22:59, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

It has been suggested that this article be merged with Military aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. (Discuss)

I glanced at Military aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and it's nice to see that others are also inspired with the same idea to keep track of financial and equipment based military aid (and extending into nonmilitary aid for additional informational resources to be included). I glanced around to get an idea as to what is a best way to title/label such a page, and I revised what I thought of a few times until settling with List of international military aid of Russo-Ukrainian War which yesterday someone renamed to List of foreign aid during the Russo-Ukrainian War. I think Military aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine is wonderful that it exists, but also it does appear redundant. Do the contributors of that article know that this one exists too? If not, they're welcome to notice as well. Jasonkhanlar (talk) 15:30, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Good idea. I moved the page to "Military aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War", given that the aid listed goes before the invasion (ex. listing aid under Obama) Phillip Samuel (talk) 04:48, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
I support the pages being combined. I moved the page back to "List of foreign aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War" because the page includes humanitarian aid. This makes more sense anyway since most countries are announcing their lethal and nonlethal aid in tandem. I don't think there's a need for a page documenting "military aid" exclusively. On this page, the two could be separated in separate sections if it makes it clearer. Curiocity1 (talk) 08:35, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Edits 1074609978, 1074610184, and 1074632978 remove the sections for aid provided to Belarus and Russia (which are currently empty) and rename the article to reference only Ukraine (which currently has all the attention/events). Whilst renaming/moving is not forking, Wikipedia:Content_forking suggests "Wikipedia's policy that requires a neutral point of view" and "The creator of the ... article may be sincerely convinced that there is so much information about a certain aspect of a subject that it justifies a [rename to concentrate on that aspect]," it may seem that justifying to exclude finding citeable sources with military and other forms of aid provided to Belarus or Russia may be discouraged or no longer fit the article given the name, however upon creating the article, knowing practically nothing about what to expect to find/see after noticing a trend of military aid events unfold, I thought it would be useful to consider a neutral, nonbiased point of view whilst populating the article with documenting military aid (and now humanitarian and other forms of aid) directed to each region involved in the root conflict that exists related to events occurring. Also I see that Military aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine's talk page is still empty and no mentions/discussions about the initially proposed merge that was initially suggested in 1074431748, removed in 1074485648 asking where is talk page, I created talk page, and resubmitted the proposal in 1074498190. My initial thoughts were the other article would be merged into this one, rather than repurposing this one to be transformed into narrative. Should this article be excluding any consideration of aid that is publicly source-citeable that is directed towards Belarus and/or Russia, or is it reasonable to include citing such source citeable events to be referenced as well? Since 2014, upon first aid provided by USA, including $1 billion loan (I didn't include citing this as it did not seem to be "military aid" or "humanitarian aid" and I didn't want to incorrectly cite the event as "aid" since I do not know if it qualifies, but since 2014, have Belarus or Russia received any "military aid" or "humanitarian aid" from any sovereign states or intergovernmental organizations? Also the Non-Aligned Movement may relate to explain neutral countries that have not provided military aid. Jasonkhanlar (talk) 11:36, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Merge and rename This article is clearly about the recent events (with only a couple of exceptions) and includes military and other aid. Military aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine is clearly about the recent events. This article should be retitled to reflect that it is about the recent events and is far from covering the duration of the war since 2014. It could be "List of foreign aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian crisis [and invasion]". A more concise name would be better: "Foreign aid to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion". It might be argued that it is not precise but precision is only a requirement if there are conflicting acticles. The scope of the article can be defined by the lead. By analogy, an article about WW2 isn't limited to reporting on events post September 1939. Cinderella157 (talk) 08:43, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Merged here, might need to control for lost info

I WP:BOLDly merged that page here (diff [3]), because this page is far more built up. I don't think there has been any lost information. There is no need to detail each and every line item of equipment. Distrait cognizance (talk) 09:46, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Split suggestion: Boycotts of a country is not aid to another and is misplaced in this list

I agree that boycotts of Belarus and Russia do not belong on this page. I would support Suggestion A, the conversion of 2022 boycott of Belarus and Russia to a list-style article (it is already similar to list format). I don't think there is a need for a completely new article on the boycotts. Curiocity1 (talk) 19:23, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
Agree, it should be split from this article and added to the 2022 boycott of Belarus and Russia article (Option A). But don't think the whole article needs to be converted to a list; the list can just be one part of it. There's going to be a lot to say in text on this topic.--Chefallen (talk) 03:55, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

I agree that this should be split and Option A seems to be the better choice. KD0710 (talk) 09:24, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Late to party but agree that this was an appropriate bold edit. Option A should probably be discussed on Talk:2022 boycott of Belarus and Russia rather than here though. --N8 05:00, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

Revision ID 1074507716 removes several links to other pages regarding the Russo-Ukrainian War. Do any of these removed links seem relevant or useful to reference?

For example I included List of current heads of state and government as I found it useful to identify and label who is responsible for approving aid for each state region. It also seems that some regions include other persons/positions as well. Jasonkhanlar (talk) 17:05, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

A nav-template at the bottom should be created to cover this - it should not be a list, because it will become both outdated and difficult to navigate. Distrait cognizance (talk) 09:49, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Albania sent military equipment to Ukraine

Can someone update those two maps [4][5]. The source is [6]. Maybe other countries too need to be updated. Ktrimi991 (talk) 00:18, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

New Zealand also needs to be added to the map. There is already a reference in New Zealand's section of the "Provided by sovereign states" list. 81.228.58.42 (talk) 18:18, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

U.S. info too big for a table

The list of what U.S. has sent is too big for a row of a table. Suggest breaking it out into a separate section. What do you think? Thanks, Daniel.Cardenas (talk) 01:00, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

I support this idea. A new section would improve readability, include more specific discussion on the topic, and accommodate future expansion of US support to Ukraine. 86.50.68.196 (talk) 04:51, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

A new map needed

The map here is faulty as it shows several islands/territories as independent nations. For instance, US Virgin Islands (part of the US), British Virgin Islands (UK), Canary Islands (Spain), Gibraltar (UK), Faroe Islands (Denmark), Puerto Rico (US), Saint Pierre and Miquelon (France), Sint Maarten (Netherlands) and Saint Martin (France) are not countries of their own and should be covered by their nations' decisions on the map. /2022-04-17 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.209.52.211 (talk) 06:04, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

With regards to Mexico, user User:Homo_logos in this edit added the country for some reason as a one that provides aid to Ukraine although this is not listed in the article. 86.50.68.196 (talk) 04:51, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Yes, this featured in the Mexican press, for instance https://www.paralelo19.mx/2021/nacional/item/12849-mexico-envia-ayuda-humanitaria-a-ucrania --Homo logos (talk) 21:43, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Sorry, but what does Mexico have to do with this section I created? Mexico is Mexico. Great to add countries that also have gifted, but this section is about the current maps showing misleading information right now. Double accounting

Items purchased with financial aid should not be listed. Trigenibinion (talk) 05:19, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

My opinion on this is that items purchased by specific military aid credits can be listed as military foreign aid contributions.
Maybe we can agree on a way to make it more clear it was purchased with the specifically provided aid instead? CrazyPredictor (talk) 03:43, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Table of total systems

It would be good to have a running tally of the total amount of equipment publicly pledged by type (in addition to a list of country specific announcements). For example, between Canada, Australia and the U.S. 100 M777 howitzers are going to be delivered. I don't know if that level of specificity is going to being possible in all cases (presumably ambiguity is desirable) but you could certainly do it for howitzers, anti-tank weapons, APC types and some missile types (or you could do it at a higher level like X artillery pieces, Y APCs, Z man portable anti-tank systems). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.93.98.156 (talk) 07:25, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

SpaceX

It is true what is written in the article about SpaceX, but it must be said that both the Polish government and Polish companies, especially "Orlen" paid the Starlinks and took over the transport and installation tasks of the equipment on the ground. SpaceX didn't make it only free. To a large extent, Poland but also USA has paid for it. Perhaps this can be supplemented with the topic of SpaceX and Poland. There are many sources, here is an example.https://www.thefirstnews.com/article/polands-orlen-delivers-starlink-internet-terminals-to-ukraine-28915 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.117.32.46 (talk) 00:11, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Helmets and bulletproof vests: Israel vs Montenegro.

Why Israeli helmets and bulletproof vests are humanitarian aid while those from Montenegro are military aid? Any difference in nature between both? This is only an example, many other countries (Bulgaria, South Korea, etc) are providing helmets and bullet-proof vests and are sometimes military and sometimes humanitarian aid. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.134.59.39 (talk) 18:00, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Some countries are specifying end users as purely civilian as they dont want to give military aid but are willing to provide humanitarian aid, i.e. specifying the equipment should only go to civilian agencies (such as police, ambulance, fire etc..). WatcherZero (talk) 01:50, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Turkey

There is a factual error about Turkey. It's on the military aid list, but no weapons were donated. Selling Bayraktars is not considered an aid. Any thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmilenica87 (talkcontribs) 17:48, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

I am inclined to agree. Notable to consider is that Turkey itself does not consider their selling of drones to be military aid. source: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/turkey-balancing-russia-ties-says-drones-ukraine-are-sales-not-aid-sabah-2022-03-03/ 81.228.58.42 (talk) 12:12, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
This isn't just a list of donations and grants, is it? Sale of weapons from other countries (Czech Republic and UAE) are included, as are loans (Canada, France, Germany, EU). So long it's specified clearly that the "aid" is a sale or a loan, I think it's fair to include it. BBQboffin (talk) 23:58, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

should this page be protected?

due to the page being about the conflict in ukraine, and the fact that some vandalism has happened recently, id recommend at least the smallest level of protection to stop ips and new users from making possibly unconstructive edits (vandalism, pov pushing, inserting unreliable sources, etc), id also like to ask for a mod to ban the "galactic empire" vandalism guy, due to it being a vandalism-only account. 187.39.133.201 (talk) 00:10, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Future Military Ais

Pentagon Propaganda-Man said "Nobody knows how far *they* will drive this war. The truth is lies and more lies in good faith. Israeli Aid prior to the invasion?

Under US military aid it includes aid from the Obama and Trump administration, prior to the invasion. If this can be applied to Israel then it could include the licensing and production of IWI weapons under the Ukrainian state enterprise FORT (State Research and Production Association “Fort” of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs). Many Tavor rifles were produced by Ukraine, with many still in use today. If people see Tavor rifles in Ukraine and mistake them for having been donated then this may clear it up as well. Maxttck (talk) 16:12, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

It looks like this isnt really aid, in 2008 RPC Fort a Ukraine state owned manufacturer started offering locally assembled IWI designs for sale and began producing them for the government in 2011 through at least 2016 however in April 2021 it was noted the IWI licensed designs were no longer available for purchase on the Fort website suggesting the end of the licensing deal. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2022/05/18/ukraines-tavors/

Slovenian M-84

There is no source that Slovenia sent M-84 tanks to Ukraine. This claim is only backed by speculative article from April about ring swap with Germany.

The map(s)

Given that all countries providing military aid also provided humanitarian aid, why do we need two different maps in the article when it can be one with a bit more complicated coloring? Also, it's reasonably to use two different colors for military aid, separating countries that only provide non-lethal military aid (from the top of my head, Israel, Japan and S. Korea, perhaps some other). Ain92 (talk) 22:23, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

Simplification of list + loss of reliable sources

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_foreign_aid_to_Ukraine_during_the_Russo-Ukrainian_War&type=revision&diff=1108137236&oldid=1108134521

There seems to be ongoing effort to make the list more readable, however during the process we are losing reliable sources. In case of the Czech Republic, multitude of sources were deleted and replaced by "ORYX" blog. Not only is that source nowhere near to being on par with those lost, but it seems that it has been originally compiled according to the Wikipedia article.

This is leading to reference in cycle and is contrary to standards of Wikipedia editing.

May I suggest revert? Cimmerian praetor (talk) 08:21, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

I am agnostic on the changes, they do tackle the length of the article (though some big formatting issues with random section headings and differing sizes of fonts) but also lose the narrative flow of events and is arguably less useful as a resource for recording history and aid in general, I also agree with the loss of referencing, perhaps we should revert to the previous recording method but also create a weapons summary page in a condensed form that only shows weapons tallies for those that just want that information. I have a feeling that when the war eventually ends much of this list of aid can be converted into a prose narrative of aid during the war rather than a list but that attempting to do so at the moment would be premature and unnecessary work. WatcherZero (talk) 17:18, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
Regarding table, I do believe that having something similar to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overview_of_gun_laws_by_nation#Comparison only for military equipment would be quite good. But it would be a mountain of work to do it. Cimmerian praetor (talk) 15:19, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
Oryx is convenient, but I don't think it should be the only source. Moreover, in some cases numbers from Oryx are not accurate or backed by sufficient evidence. -- Mindaur (talk) 21:27, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
The Oryx list apparently isn't free of errors either. In the German section it says "4.592 Rounds of 40mm Ammunition For Automatic Grenade Launchers [To Be Delivered]." But according to the German government website it should be 60,000: https://www.bundesregierung.de/breg-en/news/military-support-ukraine-2054992
It doesn't help that all thousands separators are once again replaced with dots instead of commas, probably because Oryx is a Dutch source. 2003:DC:3F49:DA00:24DC:7D16:F974:42F7 (talk) 09:49, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
For "donated" Russian equipment, Oryx only tallies visibly confirmed equipment, so their numbers are bare minimums, but fairly reliable as such. The real number is higher, we just don't know how much higher. The solution may be to include bot the minimum number and a reasonable guestimate, with those caveats added. TGCP (talk) 14:59, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
Yes, but the point of this list is to have overview of new equipment that Ukraine received and which it is pressing into service.
With the Oryx captured equipment data, we know that (A) Russia lost the equipment and (B) Ukraine captured it.
But there is no way of knowing how much of it can be pressed into Ukrainian service, be it due to bad technical state or incompatibility. Cimmerian praetor (talk) 07:54, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

Russian equipment taken by Ukraine

Numerous sources describe how Ukraine is now in possesion of equipment recently owned by Russia, in more or less working order. Just a few: Russian military equipment abandoned in Ukrainian Spoils Of War: Ukrainian Fighters Show Off Captured Russian Russia Is Supplying Ukraine With Lightly Used Tanks Ukraine captures a mountain of Russian equipment in just - and the List of equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shows many numbers for Russian weapon types, but not collected as in this article .

These transfers are definitely not aid, so it may not fit this article. But it puts Russia among the Top 5 donators (unwillingly) for Ukraine's military, so it should be notable somewhere. What to do? TGCP (talk) 09:02, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Even if we disregard the fact that it is not "aid", there is no way of telling how much of it is in working order and how much of that which is in working order can be pressed into Ukrainian service due to different supply and support needs. It has its place in a the general article about war, but definitely not in a "list", unless Ukraine publishes official numbers of captured equipment that has been put into service. Artsakh

This entity is listed here as a sovereign country, but its article says it is a "breakaway state". 331dot (talk) 21:29, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Its complicated, it was an Armenian aligned breakaway state of Azerbaijan that was unrecognized however in the 2020 war Azerbaijan reconquered it and in the peace agreement it became an autonomous self-governing area of Azerbaijan patrolled by Russian peacekeepers. WatcherZero (talk) 23:56, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
I understand that, but it's still not a sovereign country. It is listed under "other states" on List of sovereign states, where it says no other nation recognizes them. Any aid it gives should be discussed as Azerbaijani aid, just as aid from the California National Guard is discussed as part of US aid, not as California being a sovereign country(since it's not). 331dot (talk) 00:35, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
umm no it did not become a "self-governing area of Azerbaijan" officially Azerbaijan does not even recognize ex-NKAO, no one even Armenia does not recognize them not sure how they can even be listed in soverign countries. 109.205.160.241 (talk) 19:04, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Taiwan is not a sovereign country. Despite what rampant lies abound.

That is all. It's a fact of history. The whole world recognizes that there is but one China and the island of Taiwan is part of China and the conclusion of the Chinese Civil War made this a realty accepted by over 180 nations as well as the United Nations.

Taiwan cannot be included on any list of sovereign countries. Even if it donates NATO-standard munitions to Ukraine. 2601:5C4:200:5C40:5C25:C407:8CAE:BF54 (talk) 14:49, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

aid - lease/loan or (non-repayable) grants

I would be happy to see more informations about the type of aid. - E.g. the weapons by the USA are (all?) lend lease. How is it with other countries; is it a "gift" or kind of lease as well? The same with financial support: somewhere® I read that the US expects from the EU that they give Ukraine the financial support as a grant with which Ukraine can pay its lend lease rate. If so that would IMO change a bit the "gave the most". Hope someone could find and provide more informations ...Sicherlich Post 12:02, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Quite the opposite, none of the weapons for Ukraine from U.S. are land lease. It's all free: [7]. Borysk5 (talk) 12:48, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Ah! Thanks! (And I like that ;) ) - IMO for the details (not only the US) and the future it would still be pretty good to have it written for every aid given anyways. E.g. Albania: 1 million is for that country probably a lot; grant? (I asume so) or Australia aso. ....

Changing the military aid section to by type of equipment rather than by country

I am thinking about reorganizing the equipment section by type of aid rather than country. it would make sorting and counting numbers much easier. Here's example how it looks like in my sandbox: User:Borysk5/sandbox. I will do it if there's no opposition. Borysk5 (talk) 09:56, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

It might work as a separate table but I think a lot of important context will be lost if the old one is removed or changed, the exact model, timeframe and context would be lost. Also having table for every single vehicle, rifle and miscellaneous kit etc have its own row would be visually bloated. Furthermore, classified aid packages, like the ones the Finnish government is providing and financial donations to various purchasing programs wouldn't be suited to the table in the sandbox.
As I said it might be helpful as an addition to the main table but would be unstable as a replacement. Panzerpampfpony (talk) 15:29, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
Allright, I am not gonna add this right now. Want to note though that every single vehicles, rifles and kits are already listed in existing table. Borysk5 (talk) 18:01, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Moreover they are described as "army equipment", the exact number provided being "10,059 protective helmets from Bundesheer stocks and 9,300 flak jackets from old army stocks" as reported by Wiener Zeitung on 05 May 2022. (Source: Österreich schickte Ukraine Armeeausrüstung). Additionally, it was reported by Euractiv that Austria has provided an estimated " €570 million of humanitarian aid between 24 January and 20 November 2022" and an additional €56 million collected via the private donation drive "Neighbour in need." (Source: Austrian president promises Ukraine further aid)

For the German aid section, military aid should be broken down by type like with other countries (i.e. Ammunition (22 million rounds of ammunition for fire arms), Anti-Tank Weapons (Panzerfaust 3), Armoured Personnel Carriers (M113), Infantry Fighting Vehicles (Marders, BMP-1s), Infantry Mobility Vehicles (DINGOS), MLRS (MARS II), Self-propelled howitzers (Panzerhaubitze-2000s), Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Guns (Gepards), Tanks (14 Leopard 2A6s, 88 Leopard 1A5s). Also the "to be delivered" items should not be a separate section, rather the future deliveries should be list in the relevant subsection with the parenthesis at the end

Example: Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Guns

  • 30 Gepard including circa 6.000 rounds of ammunition*
  • 7 Gepard* [To be delivered in spring of 2023].
  • 15 Gepard* [To be acquired from Qatar and delivered in 2023] (1)

Also we need to amend the tanks being sent. Germany is confirmed to be sending 14 Leopard 2A6s, not 12. Additionally, it was just reported by Politico on 03 Feb 2022 that Germany is paying for and sending the 88 Leopard 1A5 tanks held by Rheinmetall (Source Germany to send 88 Leopard I tanks to Ukraine).

It was also reported by Yahoo on 03 Feb 2023 that Denmark will purchase 20 Leopard 1A5s from German company FFG. (Source: Denmark to buy Leopard tanks from Germany and give them to Ukraine).

I believe that's what it used to look like before someone edited it to make it just like on German government page. Borysk5 (talk) 19:37, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
The Danish donation is not finalized. First, Denmark sold 99 (not 100 as reported in the yahoo article) to the German company in 2010. Secondly, a deal hasn't been reached, they're still negotiating. Third, the number they're negotiating about is not at all clear, with 20 only being what could be prepared relatively fast (within 3 months). This has been reported in loads of Danish media, e.g. TV2, JP, Berlingske, etc. As also noted, they're hoping to reach a deal within a week or so, but until they actually have it is better to wait. To quote the sales director of the German company that currently owns them: "Thorsten Peter emphasizes that no agreement has been reached on the tanks yet. Nothing is finally decided." ("Thorsten Peter understreger, at der ikke er landet nogen aftale om kampvognene endnu. Intet er endeligt afgjort."). RN1970 (talk) 03:16, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
Are you able to make the changes to the Austria section that I listed? Also, can someone update the Slovenia section regarding the 28 M-55S tanks? The wiki article still says they are being prepared, but all 28 were delivered last fall, as reported by Forbes. (Source: Russia Has A Plan For Pinning Down Ukraine’s Super-Upgraded M-55S Tanks) Matticus333 (talk) 19:19, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
Done. Your suggestion regarding formatting of the German section also seems reasonable, but I'll leave that to someone with more involvement in this article. RN1970 (talk) 23:39, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

Table readability

That table of countries is not very readable. I'm wondering if a list with country names are heading would be a better way to present the data. Something like:

Provided by sovereign countries

 Albania

Military aid

Minister of Defence Niko Peleshi said on 18 March 2022 that Albania had sent military equipment to Ukraine.

Financial aid

€1 million provided to the Ukrainian government on 10 June 2022.

Under Norway's military aid, Infantry mobility vehicles, the text "Iveco LAV IIIs" should be changed to "Iveco LMVs". The link is correct, just the text is wrong. LAV IIIs are a very different vehicle made by General Dynamics Land Systems Canada. Split of the article

Since the article is much too long, it could be divided into different continents Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 20:27, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Splitting it by continents sounds like one of worse ways of doing it. Separating financial and humanitarian aid to new article on other hand sounds like a good idea. Borysk5 (talk) 20:37, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
Why, what are you suggesting? Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 20:39, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
Yes, sounds good, I would then create a draft. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 20:41, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
@Uwdwadafsainainawinfi: You would also need to create draft for non-military aid. I added template on page, we should wait some time in case someone wants to discuss it. Borysk5 (talk) 20:58, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
The article for non-military aid would be this one, so it doesn't need a draft.
In case anyone is interested, here is the draft: Draft:List of foreign Military aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 21:03, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
For once I believe that this article should have military aid and new article with non-military should be created, so higher level of editing remains on military aid which gathers more attention. Also "private companies" section should be manually separated to both articles. Borysk5 (talk) 18:07, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Such a change would put the financial aid section into limbo since it doesn't cleanly fit into either and making a third page just for it would be needlessly clunky and make gathering a complete picture of aid to Ukraine more convoluted. Panzerpampfpony (talk) 12:09, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
2 pages would be enough, since one would contain military and the other non-military aid, so there wouldn't have to be a third page. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 12:34, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
There several broad categories of aid.
  • Military, sometimes classified into non-lethal or non-weapons, lethal defensive aid, “weapons that can’t be used to attack Russia,” Soviet-legacy vs Western weapons, “modern,” etcetera. These classifications are not necessarily definable
  • Humanitarian aid
    • Aid for displaced Ukrainians outside of Ukraine
    • Support for demining and some military-adjacent activities
  • Financial and sustainment aid, to help Ukraine keep paying salaries to its military and civilian employees, continue running the government, sustain its economy, and avoid financial default
  • Reconstruction aid
There are also some distinctions between specific aid tranches:
  • Outright donations, donation of funds assigned to purchase specified things, and commercial sales
  • Deliveries vs. commitments for the near or long term, including after the war
So what is the list of article titles after the proposed split?  —Michael Z. 17:43, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
One would include any military-related aid, including financial aid with which military equipment is or has been purchased. The second would include anything non-military, like humanitarian aid. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 18:54, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
So, could be:
I think they need fairly precise criteria, to reduce the chance that something is inadvertently listed in both or neither.
Questions will likely come up. Just speculating:
  • I presume that military recipients during martial law includes paramilitary, including National Guard, Border Guard, and Territorial Defence.
  • Is support for the civilian National Police military or non?
  • Is surgery and rehabilitation overseas for wounded soldiers military aid?
  • Is help and support for displaced Ukrainians in other countries included?
  • What about dual-purpose kit that’s not designated but could be used for either relief or military purposes, like first aid kits, tourniquets, generators, satellite phones, etcetera?
 —Michael Z. 19:20, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Others should definitely get involved as well so we can find a final solution, but as far as I'm concerned it looks like this:
List of military aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War
List of non-military aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War
"I presume that military recipients during martial law includes paramilitary, including National Guard, Border Guard, and Territorial Defence."
Yes, I would agree, even if you don't know exactly which unit the donations go to.
"Is support for the civilian National Police military or non?"
Since various police units are actively involved in combat operations, this would also be true.
"Is surgery and rehabilitation overseas for wounded soldiers military aid?"
Yes, surgery and rehabilitation overseas for wounded soldiers can be considered a form of military aid, especially if it is provided or facilitated by the government or military of the soldier's home country.
"Is help and support for displaced Ukrainians in other countries included?"
No, as this does not bring any military purpose for Ukraine in the war.
"What about dual-purpose kit that’s not designated but could be used for either relief or military purposes, like first aid kits, tourniquets, generators, satellite phones, etcetera?"
Again, since these items are used in actual combat and are primarily employed by soldiers, they would only be regarded as humanitarian aid if specifically stated to be so. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 20:18, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
So the aim is (for you) to propose inclusion criteria that would get ahead of many questions such as these.
I would say support for displaced Ukrainians overseas would qualify as humanitarian aid, although it might belong in a separate section on the page.  —Michael Z. 06:05, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
While debugging the Table of Contents, I put in markup so that specific countries are accessible from the URL. For example, to read the Germany section, enter List of foreign aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War#Germany in your browser. This may be useful to the split effort. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 12:46, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Come to think of it, maybe the title List of humanitarian foreign aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War is clearer and more distinctive, and more likely to be searched for, while “non-military” can be the keystone of its inclusion criteria instead.  —Michael Z. 20:11, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Btw isn't the word "foreign" in the titles of this article redundant? Aid "to Ukraine" is by definition foreign, Ukraine can't aid itself. We could remove this word while splitting not to make title too long. Borysk5 (talk) 21:00, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Not sure. Ukrainians from kids busking on the street to billionaires have collected many millions in non-foreign aid money for military and humanitarian causes. (Which could comprise a sub-list in these articles, for starters.)  —Michael Z. 21:05, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Well that would be aid "in Ukraine", not "to Ukraine". Borysk5 (talk) 13:12, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
We should slowly come to an agreement so that we can upload the draft and adjust this page, further changes can also be made afterwards. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 22:02, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

So based on replies I propose following split:

  • List of military aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War (rename this article, so protection level is on this because it's likely to attract more editing)
  • List of humanitarian aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War (new article)

Most of training, equipment would go to military aid. Budget and financial support would go to military aid unless specifically earmarked for humanitarian purposes. Private and companies aid should be divided. The article is 400k big, so it qualifies for split, I want to implement it now or in a few days if there are no major controversies, can be always edited afterwards. Pinging @Uwdwadafsainainawinfi:. Borysk5 (talk) 13:10, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

Good.  —Michael Z. 16:02, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
Would also agree, except that the second article will most likely also get a higher protection level. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 17:00, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
I have prepared draft of military aid at Draft:List of military aid to Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian War and humanitarian aid at User:Borysk5/sandbox, ready for split. Borysk5 (talk) 12:24, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
The Financial Aid section could also be included in the Military Aid column, as was done for example in Belgium. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 13:41, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
I'll show something like that in my draft. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 13:44, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
Otherwise we would also upload my draft, since it has some advantages over the others. The ones in bold are already up to date, I would then gradually add the rest as shown in the draft. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 14:58, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
The draft should be updated with all items on current article, then I can proceed. Borysk5 (talk) 15:41, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
If you could change this, we could upload using your method first, and I'd love to update the lists as we go. As with the Oryx lists, I can also add the new formatting afterwards. However, there are two problems: Firstly, the country names in the new variant are no longer in the middle, but at the top left. Also, I can't edit all nations in visual mode, which makes it much harder for me to level them up.
I have no idea how to change this, but it would be very nice if you could. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 12:34, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Done. I implemented the split. Now if anyone wants to change anything they can edit this and new article. Borysk5 (talk) 13:16, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Incorrect formatting

Could someone move the nation names from the new variant's top left to the middle instead? Also, I am unable to edit all nations in visual mode, which makes leveling them up much more difficult.

Is anyone able to fix this like it was earlier on the list? Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 14:58, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Not sure if this is needed, but you got to replace valign="top" with valign="middle" everywhere it appears on the list. Borysk5 (talk) 08:36, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, it makes reading and using the article easier.
Nevertheless, I still have a problem. How can I change it so that I can edit all nations once more in visual mode? Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 10:37, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
In manual mode, notice that in some nation anchor template is in the same row as flag. Those nations are editable. Dunno why it works that wat. You need to move anchor template everywhere to second row, where template flag is. Borysk5 (talk) 11:11, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

Taiwan did not donate military aid - only humanitarian aid

I propose, that we remove the following two incorrectly listed Taiwanese military aid points, from the table in the article:

  • Drones: Revolver 860 Armed VTOL unmanned aerial vehicle (March, April or May 2022). (A few sold to Poland. Subsequently transferred to Ukraine).
    • The Oryx source has referenced the mentioned drone support from Taiwan, as information given by this article. The article however points to the fact, that the Drones were sold by the Taiwanese manufacturing company to a secret Polish buyer, who then donated the drones to Ukraine. Here is the cited line from the article: "Xin Media contacted the private manufacturer, but the other party was unwilling to disclose who bought the drones, and said that after all, considering the complicated and changing international situation, it only disclosed that the buyer was from Poland, and then sent it to Ukraine to fight - where it should have participated in the battle."
  • Financial aid: On 26 October, Taiwan pledged $56 million donation to support Ukraine in the war effort.
    • The source explained: "the donation will be used to further support efforts by Ukrainians to rebuild schools, hospitals and other infrastructure the Ukrainian government or people think is necessary". Such infrastructure support, is not financial aid earmarked for military purposes.

Hence, the Taiwanese government only donated humanitarian aid and no military aid to Ukraine. The Ukraine Support Tracker Data (latest February 2023 edition of the downloaded excel data) from the Kiel Institute, also agree with me on this fact. They have listed 0 military aid donations from Taiwan, along with these 9 humanitarian aid donations:

  • 22-04-2022 Humanitarian Grant: Donation worth 3 million USD directed to humanitarian assistance in Kyiv.
  • 23-04-2022 Humanitarian Grant: Donation worth 5 million USD directed to six Ukrainian hospitals.
  • 02-06-2022 Humanitarian Grant: Donation worth 2 million USD directed to Kharkiv.
  • 02-06-2022 Humanitarian Grant: Donation worth 500000 USD, directed to humanitarian assistance in Chernihiv.
  • 02-06-2022 Humanitarian Grant: Donation worth 500000 USD, directed to humanitarian assistance in Mykolaiev.
  • 02-06-2022 Humanitarian Grant: Donation worth 500000 USD, directed to humanitarian assistance in Sumy.
  • 02-06-2022 Humanitarian Grant: Donation worth 500000 USD, directed to humanitarian assistance in Zaporizhzhia.
  • According to "Source of Aid 1", Taiwan has donated a total amount of 13,2 million USD to Ukraine, in the period from Feb.2022 until 15 June 2022. However, since we discard the 1,2 million USD donated by Taiwan to the Orthodox church for the reconstruction of churches in Ukraine, we only count the 12 million USD listed by the eight points above, as humanitarian aid.
  • 20-06-2022 Humanitarian Grant: Donation worth 500000 USD, directed to humanitarian assistance in Bucha.
  • 27-10-2022 Humanitarian Reconstruction: Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu announced a US$56 million donation on behalf of the government and people of Taiwan. The donation will be used to support Ukraine to rebuild schools, hospitals and fundamental infrastructure.

Hence, I will now remove all Taiwanese military aid info in the article, if there are no objections. Because Taiwan only donated humanitarian aid. Danish Expert (talk) 14:58, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Yeah, sure. So the drones would be moved to others section I guess. Borysk5 (talk) 15:26, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Training Ukrainian soldiers by Poland, Lituania

I guess there is a mistake/lack of information in the section of Polish and Lithuanian aid "Training and rehabilitation". Both were creators of Lithuanian–Polish–Ukrainian Brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG) in 2014 (in the fall of 2015 Brigade was finally formed, Operational Capabilities in 2017). Since then, Lithuanians, Polish and Ukrainians held several official excercises and probably much more because the brigade was operational and Poland is a host country. Both Poland and Lithuania were also involved in The Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine (lead by USA). It would be fair to add it, if we already mention other countries involvement in operations like Orbital or Unifier.
From 2022 onwards, however - Poland gives space for various training programs held by US, UK or EU.

Canada updates + Bulgaria training

Hello, here's a few updates regarding funding to Ukraine from Canada : in total Canada paid CAN $2.45 billion for loans to Ukraine in 2022 (including 1.95 bln through the IMF) [1]. Also new funding has been added for mine action, CAN $3 million on 8 March 2023 (35 mln in total) [2].

Bulgaria has planned to appoint 50 of their military personnel to train Ukrainians soldiers on weapons and equipment and to train 60 combat medics from Ukraine each year [3].

Critic of sourcing and accuracy

Why is there a constant use of secondary sources such as Oryx instead of using primary government sources? This isn't only about Oryx, for a lot of other entries second-grade sources are being used instead of better ones.

Accuracy: The list is very slow to be updated, the recent US package is still not included, there is an entry for Finland for 10,000 155 mm artillery shells that is sourced by article that says that Norway supplied 10,000 155 mm shells. Also suggestive language such as "A donation of 28 M-55S tanks (a powerful upgrade of the T-55 tank)" in the Slovakia compartment is not really suited for such list.

I wish i could edit the article but i can't. Geschlittert (talk) 11:22, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

Geschlittert Wikipedia generally prefers secondary sources. 331dot (talk) 11:33, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Because wikipedia discourages compiling primary sources when secondary sources compiling and drawing conclusions from primary sources are available. Also I solved both problems you mentioned. Borysk5 (talk) 12:46, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Hm, which secondary sources are better? Ones that just take government claims at face value? Ones that operate based on visual and other confirmation? In terms of aid to Ukraine why aren't government sources the most accurate ones (for countries that don't publish delivered material other sources are obviously the way to go)?
And thanks for the edits. Geschlittert (talk) 13:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

I think considering there are contradictory sources, as per wikipedia practice, this should be listed as alleged or unclear. Not sure. Borysk5 (talk) 19:43, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
I checked both sources, menadefense is a blog managed by just one Algerian blogger named Akram (not a reputable agency) and the other one source isn't one well known source as well.
Hespress and ledesk are one of the main medias in Morocco, I double checked with an Arabic speaker regarding the statement if it's true (preferrably you can also check with multiple ones), they indeed confirmed to me the statements of the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs mentioned on the Hespress article match the video of the Minister speaking from the video I shared previously from Youtube:
Not sure if it's fair to compare statements coming from officials during press conferences with bloggers and putting them in the same level, unless if you think the Moroccan Minister is lying, but that's another topic I believe. M.Sandala (talk) 21:28, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 7 March 2023: Hungary Non-Lethal Military Aid

Can someone please add a section for Hungary and note the Hungarian Defence Forces have publicly acknowledged they provide ongoing training to Ukraine's military medical personnel as well as provide hospital care to wounded Ukrainian soldiers. Hungary admitted to providing this training after Slovakia's Minister of Defense stated "The Hungarians also help - the fact that you don't know about it and the propaganda that they don't help is spreading is one thing. But are you aware that Ukrainian soldiers are being trained on their territory? Maybe you don't even know about it." Hungary also participates in the Ukraine Defense Contact Group but we do not have any reporting on the provisions of lethal aid to Ukraine. As such the map of military aid should also update Hungary to light blue as we only have confirmation that it provides non-lethal military assistance to Ukraine. - Matticus333 (talk) 19:27, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello,
Could someone add the new supply of military aid to Ukraine in Pakistan section. The proposed changes should look something like this:

  • M44A2 120mm HE mortar bombs. [March 2023][1]
  • 137 containers with ammunition delivered. [March 2023][2]

I used the figure of 137 because the source made mention of delivery of 99 containers of ammunition in the first week of March and 38 in the second week of March. So I added those two for the month of March. Many Thanks. 1Razziq1 (talk) 21:11, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

They were all Australian M113AS4s variants. 19 June 2022 press release: "The first four M113AS4 Armoured Personnel Carriers being gifted to Ukraine..departed last week". Australia had not donated any before the war commenced to Ukraine.--Melbguy05 (talk) 18:22, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
@Melbguy05 So would you just say the date would have to be changed? Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 19:46, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
@Uwdwadafsainainawinfi: 28 M113AS4s were donated it should be part of "28 M113AS4 [Delivered from June 2022 onwards]" change it to "28 M113AS4s [Delivered from June 2022 onwards] possibly including an Armoured Logistics Vehicle (ALV) variant".--Melbguy05 (talk) 21:27, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
@Melbguy05 It's not possible, it's confirmed. In addition, this statement does not fit, since it is not an armored personnel carrier, but a Engineering vehicle and cannot be packed in one section with the rest. Uwdwadafsainainawinfi (talk) 22:23, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

The attitude towards Pakistani Government should add like other countries Eupakistani (talk) 09:01, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

There are multiple photographs of ammunition produced in Pakistan used by Ukraine, including rockets, artillery shells and mortar bombs. Borysk5 (talk) 10:41, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
Formal denials from countries like Morocco have been added, and so should Pakistan, and the pictures shown on Twitter are not necessarily produced by Pakistan, which also imports Russian oil, given its close relationship with China and its active efforts to improve relations with Russia 103.38.254.248 (talk) 22:11, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
Deutsche Welle[4] and France 24[5] are both reporting presence of Pakistani-manufactured artillery shells on the Ukrainian side. So, it is not just Indian media reports. EU's Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Riina Kionka, also said "Pakistan has been helping Ukraine in its protracted conflict with Russia by sending military and humanitarian aid".[6] This is also not something new as according to a NATO general's emails, Pakistan had "under the table" offered Ukraine to sell 500 TOW-II launchers and 8,000 TOW-II missiles in February 2015. However, that deal did not materialize because of lack of informal US approval.[7] This news was never confirmed or denied by the Pakistan's officials too even though this news has been in public domain since 2016. So there is definitely lot going on behind the scenes and focus should not only be on the words of officials. Especially, since Pakistan has maintained complete secrecy over any sale or supply of weapons to Ukraine since 2015. 1Razziq1 (talk) 23:09, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Question: Hi, thanks for your suggestion! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, there's been a lot of requests to get through. Is this data still up-to-date? Actualcpscm (talk) 12:29, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Military aid to be added for Denmark.

Please add the following for Denmark under financial aid:

• DKK 1.7 billion (€230 million) worth of lethal and non-lethal military aid including: air defense procurement, armored recovery and engineering vehicles, AVLB's, mine-clearing line charges and vehicles, ammunition to mortars and Carl Gustaf recoilless rifles, and NVG's.

• €50 million to NATO for non-lethal equipment to Ukraine such as: first aid equipment, fuel, and field rations etc.

Restructuring Suggestion

The main list is currently structured on a country-by-country aid basis. This limits the usability of the data. The aid is most frequently coordinated between countries, and in most cases certain aid package is meant to be used in conjunction with aid from other countries. Thus, the current "by country" fixed arrangement makes little sense beyond a patriotic boost for the countries included.

I suggest that the main data in the article is restructured as part of a sortable table. The table can be sortable by country, by equipment group, by specific type of equipment, and by date of delivery. I would be happy to help with the process.Lilcho72 (talk) 06:27, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

Not all of equipment can be sorted that way... Maybe heavy weapons, but training, intelligence, unspecified aid, different models of mortars, rifles would be difficult to be made into table... Borysk5 (talk) 09:54, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Rifles and mortars could be given in a table form similar to how they are given in the List of equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A separate table (with different columns) could be set up for other types of aid, such as intangible aid (training, intelligence, financial).Lilcho72 (talk) 12:46, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
The article you added already lists by type of equipment, wouldn't that be just doubling the article? Now it serves different purpose with added ability of differentiating by country. Borysk5 (talk) 15:25, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
