Note: Though it states in the Guide to writing better articles that generally fictional articles should be written in present tense, all Tolkien legendarium-related articles that cover in-universe material before the current action must be written in past tense. Merge with Tauriel[edit]

I don't see a reason for having a main article on Tauriel. It is a brief supporting role and can easily be described in this collective list. So I propose we merge the content from Tauriel into this article. De728631 (talk) 19:54, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The test for whether a topic is notable enough to merit an article is coverage in secondary sources. The Tauriel article has seven citations, six of which are secondary sources. By contrast, not only does the List article only have one secondary source (the other is a Facebook page created by the production, which makes it a primary source), but the "list" consists of only two characters. So not only is there little in the way of sources, there's little in the way of the characters that would supposedly comprise a "list". Nightscream (talk) 04:10, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Clarity[edit]

Just to be clear, is this article about characters in the Hobbit series who didn't make an appearance in any other Tolkien film series. Or is it a list of characters who weren't originally referred to in Tolkien's The Hobbit? Or something else? "Original characters" seems misleading, considering Tolkien invented them and they are therefore not original to the film series.--82.21.97.70 (talk) 23:32, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
