Change[edit]

There is a serious restriction of locality/town in title - should be places - any objections to another change? SatuSuro 07:35, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • No objection from me - town is a tricky word in Austrlia with the definition varying from state to state. Regards--Matilda talk 07:45, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecific[edit]

Saying 'aboriginal word' is terribly unspecific, lumping together as it does hundreds of Indigenous Australian languages (including many extinct ones). It's like saying that the 'Springs' in 'Alice Springs' is a 'European word' or 'white word'. Without the more specific information, I would say this article serves no encyclopedic purpose. — mark 09:54, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of repeated names[edit]

(At present, non Australian names are not numerous enough to justify a separate threads.)

(A few species of animals, especially archetypal ones, have repeated names)

(Some people have duplicated names)

(These can be perfect where the two names are identical.)

(They can be imperfect where the two names are slightly different for grammatical reasons).

New York (City) New York (State)[edit]

Because there are not a lot of non-Australian repeated names, we don't want to throw out New York (City), New York (State) too quickly. Tabletop (talk) 05:44, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other near misses[edit]

Emphasis[edit]

There are at least two formula for giving a position extra emphasis:

Red link or black non-link[edit]

We have a mixture of both in this article. Recommend change all black to red. Downsize43 (talk) 03:32, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Paraparap[edit]

The Darwin suburb of Parap was previously Paraparap. Doesn't quite belong here but worth a mention. If it could be restored it would be the longest palindromic placename in Australia. Quite euphonious too! Doug butler (talk) 13:13, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
