2021 figures[edit]

@Margaret Thompson666, could you confirm where these numbers are from? ONS have not released them for lower-level political geographies or built-up areas. I understand the shape files for BUAs, and separate England & Wales OA population counts are now available, but if you are reaching a conclusion by combining them then that isn't supported and considered a breach of WP:OR, specifically WP:SYN. Only routine totalling up (WP:CALC) is allowed. I've not seen a breakdown elsewhere on the web and if you are privy to insider information from ONS that again is hugely frowned upon. These numbers are from Citypopulation.de, a German website that grabs the figures for every census population. That is where the figures are from. Margaret Thompson666 (talk) 20:00, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I did wonder if it was that site, but could not initially find the data there. I have now and can see they've unfortunately fabricated some numbers and reused the 2011 subdivision list, but the ONS methodology has changed for the definition of BUASDs and it does mean several new areas have been created for the 2021 census. For example, Brinsworth was part of the Sheffield area in 2011, but has been separated out, also there is a new area called Waverley and Catcliffe, only Catcliffe existed 10 years ago. New GSS codes for England have also been created due to the change (E63xxxxxx). Basically CPop.de have done half a job and not taken account of this. I strongly think the numbers are not feasible. Had a go on MS Excel with the stats available from the ONS - the Sheffield subdivision with my back-of-the-envelope calculations show the Sheffield subdivision population is only 500,520 for 2021. A number of suburbs have been broken out which explain this, possibly also a reduction in local population too. Brinsworth, as well as Ecclesfield and Grenoside, while in Derbyshire, Highlane, and Ridgeway have been separated from the 2011 area. The Equalizer (talk) 11:35, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The boundaries have now changed on citypopulation.de because all census figures have been published so now there is the actual census figures for places like Sheffield where the population is 500,552. Sheffield has lost places such as Brinworth, Ecclesfield, Highlane and Waverley. Since I kind of messed things up for the places before they changed boundaries, I'll let someone else change the figures since I don't want to mess up again.
