Notable tubists[edit]

No list of notable tuba players is complete without mention of Tucker Jolly, who has taught for many years at the University of Akron, performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, and currently plays with the Akron Symphony Orchestra. Screw those Julliard fakes listed on here. Anyone who has heard him or sat under his teaching knows that he is without a doubt, one of the best ever. His arrangement of 'Flight of the Bumblebee' is incredible. He is also the founder of 'TubaChristmas'. Add the guy, he's the man. Previous list over-ridden without discussion[edit]

With no talk page discussion whatsoever, another editor had pasted in an entirely new unreferenced list, overwriting the previous list which had references and a sortable format. "Tuba player" or "Tubist"?[edit]

Major cleanup[edit]

This list violated multiple Wikipedia policies regarding notability, use of external links, biographies of living persons, no original research, and what Wikipedia is not . It was a link farm and spam magnet. I have removed all names which do not have an article on Wikipedia. Please do not add any names which do not have articles, they will be removed. If you wish to add a name, then write an article about them first, referenced to reliable sources which verify the information in the article and establish the subject's notabilty. If you wish to expand this list with existing articles, check Category:Tubists.

I have made the following edits to the descriptions column:

removed all puffery, e.g. "world renowned" per WP:NPOV
removed all references to "currently" per WP:MOS. It is a meaningless word. Don't use it. Use a specific date, e.g. as of 2010.
removed all external links per WP:EL and WP:NOT. Any relevant external links should be in the listed article not here. Wikipedia is not an internet directory, or free advertising space.

The following red linked names and their alleged descriptions have been removed, pending articles:

Add Yasuhito Sugiyama and Ronald Bishop[edit]

Ronald Bishop was the tubist for the Cleveland Orchestra for over 30 years. He currently teaches at the Oberlin Conservatory and the Cleveland Institute of Music. He also taught at the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory.

Yasuhito Sugiyama has been the tubist for the Vienna Philharmonic and the New Japan Philharmonic. He is currently the tubist of the Cleveland Orchestra (taking over after Ronald Bishop's retirement from the orchestra). List of tuba players on the French WP site[edit]

The Tuba page on the French WP site includes a list of tuba players (link to the French WP page). They are not handled the same... but editors of this English page might like to check some of the entries that they have included on the French page. (Not all of them have their own biographic pages... and some of those that do, only have pages on the French site. However, it might give some ideas for adding to the material on the English site). Paul Haugan[edit]

I would like to make a page for Paul Haugan, but am having trouble finding much about him online besides his recent obituaries. Redlink entries[edit]

Per WP:LISTPEOPLE, entries on lists of people require evidence of notability for each entry. This means multiple independent reliable sources which cover the subject in detail. The entries that I have removed do not meet this standard. The references primarily consisted of bios from orchestras or universities the tuba players were associated with. I've restored one, who I believe has sufficient independent coverage. Most of the ones you removed are probably notable, but there is more coverage in non-English sources. This whole thing is a little frustrating because I have no interest in doing a deep dive in them to establish notability, but I know that no one else ever will... oh well.
