Beeching axe (as usual) is blamed for the rationalisation of the station in the 60s. This was actually part of a long-term strategy for the concentration of traffic into a single station in each city where possible. Will change if no-one objects. To be honest, this is a policy that, whilst it may have upset train buffs, was actually welcomed by the public who no longer had to ride taxis across city centres to change trains.

Ticket Barriers[edit]

The assertion that Liverpool Central is one of Six Stations on the Network with Barriers? At my last count it was at least 9: Southport, Moorfields, Liverpool Lime Street, Liverpool Central, Liverpool James Street, Liverpool South Parkway, Hamilton Square, Conway Park and Chester. Top Image[edit]

The top image is very 'old school' and would be more appropriate is the station was closed? But as an open station would an image of the actual station/current signage not be more appropriate? --Smeowrend (talk) 13:07, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If a more general image of the station (which is free and up-to-date) can be found that would be ideal, but for now I've reverted to the previous image, as it's preferable to the 'old school' sign. Mato (talk) 01:16, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Improvements completed[edit]

Passenger Numbers[edit]

Unless I'm misreading it, the panel on the right states that passenger numbers at Central were under 1 million per year in 2004, but had risen to nearly 18 million by 2010.
