Michael Vincent?[edit]

Or Michael Vincent Walsh? It's not clear from the source if Vincent is actually his middle or last name. anemoneIprojectors 22:28, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Presumably it's Michael Vincent Walsh. This source says "I don't know if he'd been tipped off but he decided to ask Maureen if Louis was his real name and she said it wasn't. It was hilarious; nobody could believe his real name was so ordinary." It just says "Louis" rather than "Louis Walsh". The caption also says "Louis - Mam named him Michael Vincent". Obviously she wouldn't have much of a choice about choosing to name him Walsh. However, all of this is speculation as, worryingly, the DS story, the rté story, and many other sources all stem from this item in The Sun (of all places), which just says she told the warm up guy during a break, and that "an insider" told them. I missed Saturday's episode so don't know whether it came out on air. If it didn't then I'd suggest removing this altogether until a source better than The Sun reports it. Brad (talk) 00:18, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't recall it being mentioned on air, even in The Xtra Factor show. I don't trust those "insiders"... anemoneIprojectors 00:25, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life[edit]

Editor 194.80.32.9, and a number of other IP editors (it may be the same person) is adding a paragraph speculating about a lack of personal information to the article. Here's what wrong with this;

  • it documents the existence of a "little" information that is known, but neither specifies or cites it.
  • it suggests that this information is not published because of fear of legal action. No cite to back up this statement.
  • The insinuation is therefore that this information is controversial, but provides nothing to back this up.
  • it suggests that the lack of information is what has caused gossip. Nothing to back this statement up. And in any case, Wikipedia does not document gossip.
  • It mentions relatives of Walsh, but nothing is cited to provide verification.

For all these reasons this paragraph violates Wikipedia policy on biographies of living persons and policy of verifiable information. As such, policy states it should be removed immediately. Do not add this again. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 12:42, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems there isn't much about this area of his life (marriage, sexuality etc.) any information found would be appreciated.--Cooly123 22:56, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Certainly the lack of info tells us something, and it is a fact that no such info is yet forthcoming. That, in itself and only by itself, can certainly be included.

Regarding the citation request :)[edit]

I just came to this article and noticed the request at the top of the page. It's a bit odd though, cause there's the citation request, but there are no {{fact}} tags anywhere in the article, to show where the citations are needed. Could someone sort this out, or if its wrong, just get rid of the citations box :) Cheers. Thor Malmjursson (talk) 18:59, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References to reliable sources are required throughout the article. Most of the sources used (e.g. "the Daily Goss", startrip, Youtube, myparkmag) are not good enough and they need to be replaced with references to much better sources.--Michig (talk) 19:35, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Girls Aloud[edit]

Louis Walsh does not manage Girls Aloud any more! He hasn't for about 5 years 79.78.73.54 (talk) 22:34, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eurovision[edit]

Someone is trying to fool people here. Johnny Logan sang Whats Another Year in 1980: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vccwzuttIQY

My Lovely Horse was a joke song written for the Eurovision episode of the Father Ted series.

Louis Walsh had nothing to do with either Logan or Father Ted

Hope someone who knows about the life of Louis Walsh will fact check the rest of this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.126.19.26 (talk) 13:48, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The "Lovely Horse" reference was added as vandalism just yesterday. I've removed it. The bit about Logan has been there for a while and doesn't sound impossible. I've added a tag saying a cite is needed, but if anyone wants to remove it is cited, feel free. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 14:18, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Life before Boyzone?[edit]

What did he do before deciding to put together a boyband? did he have any music industry experience already? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.237.144.148 (talk) 14:16, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article lacks info on the first four decades of his life. Jim Michael (talk) 21:02, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And nigh on two years later still does. There must be a biography out there somewhere. danno_uk 03:07, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Worked in a music managers' office in Dublin. Discovered Johnny Logan and got him to enter Eurovision. Then presumably managed Logan. Then formed Boyzone. –anemoneprojectors– 11:10, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sex attack[edit]

I think it is worth mentioning that Walsh is currently being investigated by police over allegations that he sexually assaulted a 24-year-old man in a toilet at a nightclub in Dublin.

The investigation has been dropped, a man is being charged with extortion and wasting police time, and Walsh is considering legal action against certain newspapers. See here. I see no need for this in the article at the moment. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 21:07, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Louis Walsh makes a beautiful woman[edit]

Nothing is mentioned of Louis Walsh's very open history of wearing female clothing in public. Here claims he was the bride of Simon Cowell for a photoshoot in 2006. And today he is seen here in absolutely stunning stiletto heels and dress, purse and earrings (complete with gorgeous legs) pretending to be Cheryl Cole (and with her full and complete consent). RTÉ is a public service broadcaster and the Irish Independent is a broadsheet daily newspaper. What is going on? Maybe this is only reported in Ireland?

Or maybe because fancy dress photo-shoots aren't really that important and indicative of nothing?? --Escape Orbit (Talk) 20:36, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But they are indicative of something. He has openly (and, importantly for wikipedia, verifiably) practised cross-dressing (which wikipedia describes as "the wearing of clothing and other accoutrement commonly associated with a gender within a particular society that is seen as different than the one usually presented by the dresser.[1] Cross-dressing has been used for disguise, performance art and as a literary trope in modern times and throughout history"). Therefore can someone include him in Category:Cross-dressers for "notable people who self-identify as cross-dressers or are known to practice cross-dressing"? Why should wikipedia deny something he is perfectly open about and completely comfortable with? Especially since he looks so gorgeous (but that's beside the point). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.40.99.52 (talk) 23:20, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, according to this website he only dressed up as Cheryl Cole for an end-of-year photoshoot for Heat magazine. Note the sentence that says "Those thinking that Walsh has embraced a new life of cross dressing however can think again". Basically dressing up for a fancy dress party is not notable and not important so stays out.--5 albert square (talk) 23:36, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sergio Aguero openly and verifiably dressed up as Harry Potter. Does that mean we should be editing his article to discuss his involvement with witchcraft? He seems perfectly comfortable being in public dressed as a wizard, after all. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 23:52, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Wizard-dressing does not exist. Category:Cross-dressing does. Also comparing cross-dressing to fictional fancy-dress sounds disrespectful to drag queens and transvestits everywhere, it sounds like they are being laughed at and having the fun poked out of them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.40.99.52 (talk) 23:56, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't comparing fancy dress with transvestitism exactly what you're doing? --Escape Orbit (Talk) 13:50, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Longest Standing Judge[edit]

There have been attempts to describe Walsh as "the longest standing judge on any TV series in the world", due to what is said here. There are two problems about this;

Firstly, it is obviously incorrect. See the Judge Judy article to read how it has featured a judge since 1996. Perhaps what is meant is that he is the longest standing judge on a TV talent show, but that's not what it says. So we shouldn't be second guessing it.

Secondly, and more importantly, the source does not say he is "the longest standing judge on any TV series in the world", it says he was "introduced as the longest standing judge on any TV series in the world". So the source itself is distancing itself from the claim. Probably because they also believe it to be dubious. Now the X-Factor (USA) may wish to claim this, but as a primary source its claims should be treated with caution. We need a secondary source to state it, and the Irish Independent is noticeably not stating it. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 16:21, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Edit: Controversy: Mel B[edit]

In 2014, Louis Walsh was seen in an interview on the X Factor inappropriately touching the backside of another judge, Mel B. Mel B drew attention to the hand in the interview, to which Louis laughed and responded, "I'm looking out for you Mel."[1]

Under normal circumstances I would agree, but the video is self-evident, and this is kind of a big thing to refuse to put in the article, it speaks a lot about his character as a public figure, and I'm suspicious of the dedication there seems to be over removing it. Also, this may speak more to the nature of the 2011 accusation. Perhaps it's not as false as we might have wanted to believe. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.220.126.24 (talk) 06:14, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
