Controversy with Nakamura[edit]

I added a paragraph on Supi's controversy with Nakamura, as that was a widely publicized incident at the time. Note that in the Portuguese Wikipedia, that incident has its own section and even more details.

Sophia91 recently deleted it stating it is "Uncyclopedia" content. Please remember that this is not a forum to showcase accomplishments. As a reminder, this is an excerpt of Wikipedia's biography guidelines:

Wikipedia articles concerning living persons may include material—where relevant, properly weighted, and reliably sourced—about controversies or disputes in which the article subject has been involved.

An IM defeating the top rated player and then being disqualified for cheating is certainly an event relevant to their career. It is even more relevant when the disqualification is considered a mistake by all GMs who analyzed it--I wanted to add quotes from GMs defending Nakamura in that instance, but found none.

If someone else thinks this is "Uncyclopedia" content, please explain why so we can improve that paragraph, as opposed to deleting relevant content.

Note that both players recently played a match in 2021 and praised each other, so someone looking for a lighter take on the subject could spend the time to add that and properly back it up.

Wrong Birthday date[edit]

In a late stream (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7cudIr14uk) GM Supi himself commented that his birthday is on 25th of June 1996 - i.e. today. This is also stated in the Portuguese version of this article. Also it is stated like this in (https://rafaelleitao.com/supi-domina-no-acre-e-conquista-o-titulo-de-grande-mestre/). I would modify this but first I would like to know the source for the other date given as birthday here (10th October 1996) to be sure it is just a mistake.--Kafka Is An Ok Writer (talk) 19:01, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • The 10 October birthday is reported on the FIDE GM title application, https://ratings.fide.com/crt/main226524.pdf. The book Chess International Titleholders, 1950–2016 by Gino Di Felice (2016) also gives 10 October 1996 as Supi's date of birth. The Di Felice book lists Supi as an IM as that was his title in 2016. We don't know what source Di Felice used for that birthday, but often he seems to use FIDE records for this information so when FIDE records are incorrect the book may repeat the mistake. The title application forms are often our only source for birthdates and birthplaces. Usually the information is accurate, but we know that sometimes the application forms contain errors. Ideally we can find a reliable source with Supi's correct birthday and cite that in this article, and also make the correction in list of chess grandmasters as well. I took a quick look at some of the references in the Portuguese-language wikipedia article but I didn't find a source for date of birth. Maybe you will fare better. Removal of the "December 2021" drama[edit]

I removed the content regarding the December 2021 online matches between Supi and Nakamura since I believe nothing shows it is relevant to Supi's or Nakamura's career. To my knowledge, this was talked about mostly within the Brazilian chess community and one Reddit post. To claim that Nakamura "insinuated" that Supi cheated is WP:ORIGINAL, since Nakamura, on stream (there's VODs), never claimed that Supi cheated after his 4 matches with him. Also, like I said in my edit message, this isn't mentioned in the article in Portuguese at all.User:Tetizeraz. Send me a ✉️ ! 00:29, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of saying that Nakamura "insinuated" that Supi cheated, instead of removing and calling it Original, put instead a quote of what he did say and a link to the youtube video so people can make their own mind if it was an insinuation or not. How many times Nakamura has to accuse GM Supi of cheating before it becomes relevant to their careers? Hikaru already got him kicked out of one tournament. By the way, ICC unbanned Supi, without saying a word.
