According to http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2012/08/birds-wont-die-if-they-eat-rice/, Schmidle is (somewhat) (in)famous for introducing "An Act Prohibiting The Use Of Uncooked Rice At Nuptial Affairs". (Which, according to the website cited, had no scientific basis.)
